Puppy
Riki was in his bedroom just staring into space. Earlier, he was thinking about what to give Haruna for their first anniversary as a couple.
Yes, they have been together for almost a year now. However, Riki was still clueless about his gift for his girlfriend. He had given her flowers, chocolates, teddy bears and even made a cake for her in the past. But he wanted this gift to be special, something that would Haruna very happy.
Laughter from outside broke his reverie. As he looked out the window, he saw Haruna and Seelon giving Dr. Dazai's dog a bath in their building's backyard. The dog was so big and naughty that it splashed water from the tub every time it made a move. So Haruna and Seelon looked like they also took a bath.
He suddenly remembered the time when Haruna saved a puppy from being run over by a car.
Flashback:
They were playing in the field when all of a sudden they heard a screech…and Haruna was gone. He recalled how his heart stopped at that moment. He could not imagine Haruna being dead. Heck, he did not even get to tell her that he loved her.
Imagine Riki's relief when he saw Haruna and the puppy on the other side of the road, scratched but safe. Relief washed his fear away as he ran as fast as he could to see her.
She has a slight scratch on her and she was clutching a very scared puppy in her chest. Right then and there, Riki wanted to scream at Haruna for almost getting herself killed. But he restrained, as doing so would give away his feelings for her.
End of Flashback:
"That's it!" Riki said. He ran out of his room as fast as he could and hopped on to his car. He passed in front, so Haruna did not see him.
He dropped by the pet shop and searched for the breed that looked like the one Haruna saved before.
As he reached home, Haruna was waiting in the dining area. She wore this simple mini dress which showed off just enough skin. She had made a two-course candlelight dinner for two for their anniversary.
"Riki?" Haruna said. "Hi sweetheart, it's me." Riki replied.
"What's in the box?" Haruna asked, eyeing the very large box.
"My gift for you, of course". Riki replied excitedly. "But you only get to open it after dinner". He quickly added.
After dinner
"That was a very great meal, Haruna. Thank you!" Riki exclaimed.
"Your welcome! I have been researching for the best recipes in every bookstore just to make this for you".
"Well, it is time to see your gift!". "But before you do, I want you to close your eyes".
Haruna wondered what Riki got her for their anniversary. Surely, a bouquet would not be that big. She absolutely had no idea what her boyfriend got for her.
Her eyes shot open when she heard a small sound coming from the box and she was greeted by a very cute puppy which looked liked the one she rescued a year ago.
"…." She could not say anything. Sure, she loved the gift but she was so surprised and happy that it made her speechless.
"Haruna? Are you alright?" Riki asked worriedly.
"Of course. Of course. I'm fine. I was just so surprised. Thank you Riki!" She hugged him hard and gave him a kiss on the cheeks.
"Happy first anniversary, Riki".
"Happy first anniversary, Haruna". "I love you".
