Rory walked slowly into her bedroom. She fell onto her bed, the events of the week swimming through her head.

So Jess was gone. He'd left, he'd escaped the blame that would fall upon his head like an axe. He'd gone home.

**So far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?

It would be so fine to see your face at my door

Doesn't help to know you're just time away**

She hadn't wanted him to go. It appeared she was the only one that knew it wasn't his fault. Yes, he'd been driving. But it wasn't his fault! Damn furry thing.

Lorelai blamed him. Christopher blamed him. Dean would, when he found out. The whole town blamed him.

Rory wondered if he blamed himself too.

**Long ago I reached for you and there you stood

Holding you again could only do me good**

They'd been having fun. She could talk about things with him that Dean would never understand. They liked the same books, the same music, save that awful rock he listened to.

As you wish. That was so sweet.

**How I wish I could, but you're so far away**

She wondered where he was now. Probably on a train, probably cheering at having left behind Stars Hollow.

**One more song about movin' along the highway

Can't say much of anything that's new**

She wished she had that time in the car back. That was quite possibly the best time she'd had in awhile.

She didn't have that much fun with Dean anymore. She didn't know if she ever did.

**If I could only work this life out my way

I'd rather spend it bein' close to you.**

She wished she could be with him.

**I sure hope the road don't come to own me

Yet so many dreams I've yet to find**

Jess looked out at the moving scenery as the bus drove slowly. He sighed, leaning his head against the cool glass.

**But you're so far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?

It would be so fine to see your face at my door

Doesn't help to know you're so far away**

He thought she blamed him. Hell, he blamed himself. He'd left her in the hospital, she was there all alone.

**Oh, so far away**

He wished he could be there with her. The unshakeable Jess Mariano, mooning over a girl. But she was different. She'd treated him like a human, a friend.

And now he was on his way home, she was staying her perfect town with her perfect boyfriend.

She was back there, probably rejoicing at his departure.

**Travelin' around sure gets me down and lonely

Nothin' else to do but close my mind**

The two sat, alone, thinking of one another,.

**But you're so far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore?

It would be so fine to see your face at my door

And it doesn't help to know you're so far away**

I wish I could be with him.

I wish I could be with her.

**Oh, so far away

You're so far away**
