Prologue
'Tomorrow,' Tsukibi thought contentedly, curling into a catlike ball. 'Tomorrow I will be reborn. Restored to myself for the first time in so long. All I can hope is that I can be the only soul in the body I enter. Tomorrow, I will be 6,666 years old, and I will be created anew.' She slept. It was ten o' clock where she was, and as the two hours went by, the demon slumbered on, dreaming of who she used to be.
The universe was cruel for destroying such a virtuous soul, for subjecting it to so much evil that it became twisted and cruel. The poor girl had gone through so many traumas in her previous life that she had snapped. The shadowy being crouched on the window peered closely at the demon, eternally a teenager, the only one of the Descendents of the Gods that could have fallen so low. Tsukibi was the only one with holy blood that had committed such violent crimes and such a bloody suicide. The shadows fell away from around the demon's sleeping form as the Spectral Universe clock struck midnight. As the cat demon began to glow with a lavender light, the shadow, entranced by her beauty, remained despite the pain that had begun to wrack its dark form. And as the last remains of life were stripped from the shadow's form, it, too, was sucked into the mortal world. And it was by this strange twist of fate that the shadow that lurked near her as she slept was divided into three demons, three fallen angels, and one demigod and given new lives as the darker sides of children born that year and late in the last year.
Tsukibi's birthday was June Sixth, the Day of the Dead, and so on the Wednesday that marked her 6,666th birthday, she would be reborn. And so the shadow that followed her in was given to seven mortals as a second soul and a darker side. Its seven divisions were also duplicated into another dimension and given to seven mortals 5,000 years earlier than the shadow was even released into the mortal worlds. It created shadow magic and a complicated web of destiny that would bring a civilization to near ruin and a game to harsh and life-altering reality. It would bring greed and resolve, knowledge and horror, and would recreate the universe and bring humanity to believe in destiny. The shadow games would erupt in one dimension and would become an inspiration in another. And the consequences of the shadow's resistance would eventually be the collision of the two worlds and the insanity that would cause.
When the demon woke up with an infant's body and an infant's mind, she remembered nothing. But her life lessons and maturity would shape this baby girl's life and create something amazing and strong. The restoration of Tsukibi's morality and kindness would be finally realized, and the combination of her fiery soul and this child's strong, brilliant soul of healing waters and icy logic would create strong, cementing friendships and a beautiful moral code. And few would even be able to see the one who was strengthening the wisdom of the delicate child, and that was the way Tsukibi liked it.
