Title: A Necessary Evil
Summary: Chin had known it wouldn't be easy. A short tag for Oia'i'o. Chin's POV. Ficlet.
Spoilers: Major spoilers for the season one finale, Oia'i'o.
Disclaimer: It's not mine, but I'll take Steve or Danny, if anybody's offering…maybe a two for one special? *looks hopeful*
A/N: I should be working on my Stargate: Atlantis fic for the help_japan auction on LJ, and I am, honestly, but a good portion of my inspiration decided to take a vacation to Hawaii, so I finally gave in and wrote another fic for H50, lol.
As always, I thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is the source of all inspiration.
A Necessary Evil
Chin had known it wouldn't be easy.
The moment he'd accepted the HPD badge and the new rank that went with it, he'd felt the weight of his decision pressing down on his shoulders, tightening his chest.
Danny's anger he'd expected, understood, really - he knew how it must have looked, him arresting Steve, a Lieutenant's badge clipped to his belt. He just hoped that Danny would be willing to hear him out later, when he cooled down.
Steve's reaction was tougher to decipher; the slightly dazed, disbelieving look in his eyes was too unfamiliar, too foreign to read.
But, Kono…she saw him as he was leading Steve away from booking, towards the holding cells.
Kono, his baby cousin, the one who used to toddle after him down the beach, the one member of his family who'd stood by him when no one else had, the one who'd always looked at him with absolute trust…
Confusion flitted over her features first, then shock, and finally, hurt.
How could you? Chin heard the words as clearly as if she'd spoken them aloud.
He ducked his head, unable to hold her gaze, and guided Steve around the corner.
He had known it wouldn't be easy. He just hadn't realized it would be this hard.

A/N: If anyone is curious, I think Chin would probably want to stay behind to process the scene at the governor's mansion, but I think he'd be worried about Steve too - worried that he'd get into an "accident" on the way to the station. So, given that Chin got in the car with Steve, as Qweb was kind enough to point out in her review, I'm assuming that he locked down the scene, and was there while Steve was being booked, and Kono was turning in her badge and gun. :)
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it!
Take care and God bless!
