A/N: If you can PLEASE watch this film. It is much more than just a children's story, it is the essence of what most children's dreams are made of. It's magical, it's beautiful, it's warm.
Spun by the darkest night skies, a strand of hair tucked so neatly behind the child's ear fell into her slumbering face. Dreaming of ice cream parties with friends yet unmet, the little girl was unaware of the figure hovering beside her.
Toothiana or preferably The Tooth Fairy smiled adoringly at the child before her. This, right here, was what made her job so much more rewarding. To know that she wasn't just protecting the children's memories, but the innocence of the children themselves warmed her heart in ways nothing else could.
No incisor, molar, or canine could ever create the feelings she felt. Although it was easily a close second.
Carefully guiding her hand under the child's pillow she pulled the tooth out from within its cozy prison. Inspecting the tooth she identified it as a beautiful lateral incisor. Overjoyed she couldn't believe that a five-year old girl could floss so thoroughly, and brush so carefully as the tiny creature had. Most children today had all the medical assistance in the world to make sure their teeth were healthy, but they didn't care enough to do all the work.
Back in her day children were never so lucky. If a tooth hurt, it was either left to fall out or plucked out with a blunt instrument. To be fair, they had more reason to be scared of a cavity than the children of today's world.
Looking past the tooth itself, The Tooth Fairy delved into the memory withheld within it. Before her sparkled an innocent tale of trial and error. Apparently this little scamp had noticed that her tooth was loose WAY before anyone else had. Images involving tooth floss and closed doors, painful tuggings, and the accidental fall that involved a slippery slide and her best friend's elbow appeared before Toothiana's eyes.
Happily she laughed at the little girl's antics, tears forming between her closed eyes. As her laughter began to die down the fairy wiped away her tears with the tips of her fingers, and opened them once again. Among her graces was the joyous eyes of the once slumbering girl. Carefully placing a present under the child's pillow, she was thankful that children thought wings were cool because if they weren't, she was sure that the little creature would have surely seen The Tooth Fairy's swift movement.
Attempting to leave the room before the child completely awoke, she found that she couldn't. The little girl had entangled its arms around the Tooth Fairy's hips, keeping Toothiana from retreating. A hug? She pondered, she hadn't felt a hug in…centuries. How had time flown so quickly? Unable to leave the precious girl before her, she returned the hug. Marveling at the warmth within her chest, she could not help but love her job.
A/N: Toothiana is her real name in the novels. This little fic is probably post-film, but it might make it into the 1940s - up category.
