Juliet was back at Fowl Manor after her recent series of wrestling championship matches. She was wearing her championship belt and her jade hairpiece in her hair.*
Anyway, she was unofficially the nanny for Beckett and Myles Fowl. The three year old intelligent little dumplings were a lot like their older brother.
The kitchen timer rang. Juliet opened the oven and took out a batch of cookies. She set some on a plate and went upstairs towards the boys' rooms.
"...You see, Beckett and Myles? That's how you calculate the exact longitude and latitude of your current location," Artemis stated proudly.
Beckett threw a glob of finger paint into Artemis's face and Myles didn't look up from his book.
"Cookies!" Juliet said cheerfully, smirking at Artemis.
The boys looked at her and screamed with joy.
"Thank you, Auntie Juliet!" they screeched.
Juliet held the plate out and they each reached for a cookie when a pale hand snatched the plate and held it up high. The boys stared at their older brother blankly.
"Artemis, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Juliet asked loudly.
"This plate has 4 cookies! They can't eat these cookies! Death's the meaning of 4!"
"Artemis simple-toon," Beckett muttered.
Juliet had to laugh.
"Are you serious? That's why you're freaking out? Because you're scared of the number 4?"
"Do...not say...that number?"
"Are you counting your words? Give me a break, Artemis! Darn...now I'm doing it! Seriously? What makes you think 4 means death?"
"I read it somewhere-before." he mumbled.
"Time for a short lesson for YOU, Arty."
Beckett and Myles stared as their nanny shouted nonsense at their brother.
"...Okay, simply; sì and sǐ."
"...What do you mean, Juliet?"
Juliet sighed. All this training in China for a lesson on a number.
"Sì means four in Mandarin Chinese."
She accented the next word clearly.
"Sǐ means death. Complete difference."
"But, then they're almost homonyms!" Artemis shouted.
"No, they have different tonal-"
"MY FEARS ARE CORRECT..." Artemis yelled, and then widened his eyes. He threw the plate of cookies on the floor.
"You cannot serve four cookies on a plate, Juliet!" he snapped.
Juliet glared at him. What was wrong with Artemis? She picked up the plate of cookies and shoved one in Artemis's mouth so he would shut up. He screamed and spat it out.
"THAT FOUR COOKIE IS POISONED! You're out to get me! How could you, why Juliet?"
"Artemis, there's something wrong-"
"NO! I'm going to my room! And go ahead and give those cookies to my brothers! I'm not dealing with this!" Artemis turned around and departed quickly. Butler suddenly peeked in the doorway.
"Myles, is Artemis still mad with you for stealing his petri dishes for experimenting?" he asked, confused.
"No, he was going on about the number four again."
"Ah...well, I'm going leave him alone." Butler grabbed the cookies and left. Juliet looked down at the boys.
"Want to go to the kitchen for more cookies?"
"YEAH!" they screamed, and they ran downstairs.
A/N:
*In The Eternity Code Juliet set for America to be a wrestler, "The Jade Princess". In case you like, forgot.
This is obviously set during Atlantis Complex. I have an excuse for Art being so OOC. By the way, there is actually such a thing as a fear of the number 4 because of the similarity in the word death and the number 4 in China. Isn't that cool? Thanks for reading, R&R!
