Neun

Introduction

As the bullet flies out of my 9mm. pistol I remember everything this man had done for me. He was the man who trained me. He was the one who told Scythe about me. He and Cal found me. That was the moment that I had been set on a course to the murder of more people then I can count, including him, Zwei.

A very young boy woke in a small room on a hospital bed, his gown covering most of his body and anything he wouldn't want people to see being also covered by his striped boxers.

'Where am I?' He thought to himself before a tall man walked in through the door, the man being in a white suit and much to pale, wearing glasses, his receading hair line covering his whole forehead as his silver grey hair is slicked back.

"Hello." The man said in a calm, collected, yet ominous voice, as if he knew that the world was his, as if he were invincible.

"Um, hello..." The boy hesitated to reply, not wanting to really talk to a stranger, he somehow knew better, but after trying to remember why he knew, it dawned on him. He had no clue who he was, how old he was, where he was, or even the slightest idea who this man is.

"I know it may be a bit annoying not knowing anything my boy." The slender, silver haired, man said and walked over to he bed in which the boy was sitting up in, the back of his gown opening and relieving his back. "But I can assure you, much worse will come."

"What do you mean?" The young boy asked, his tone as if he had lost hope. He then looked up at the man, his face relieving that he is not even over ten years old. "Worse?"

"Yes my young man. Much worse." The man answered, his tone showing that he was in fact very serious. 'This boy is the spitting image of Zwei.' The silver haired man thought. 'If he can reach Zwei's level, he will be the ultimate weapon.'

"Why? What did I do?" The boy asked, "I was good. I promise..."

"We both know you haven't been good." The man chuckled. "You got in a fight with the big kids. But you won. And for that, you have my respect." He said to the boy, holding out his hand. "You beat all three of them on pure instinct. I heard about it all from Zwei."

"Zwei?" The boy asked, unable to wrap his mind around such an exotic and unusual name, "Who is that?"

"Zwei is your friend." The man laughed. "He is also your new teacher. He is nice." He then looked over to the door and nodded, a teenage girl walking in. "Ein." He then said and the girl looked to him, her face completely void of emotion.

"Yes Master?" She asked, "How can I help?"

"Your gun." He said simply and held his hand out, the fairly heavy revolver being plopped into his hand right away. "This is your new friend." He then said to the young boy. "Unless you decide you don't want to. Then we can get you out of here. But not home."

"Why can't I go home?" The boy asked. "Is there a r-" He starts to ask but is interrupt.

"If you choose to not take this offer...we will have to kill you..." The man sighed. "And that would be a waste of good natural born skill..."

The words hit the boy like a truck. 'They will kill me?' The thought to himself. 'I don't want to die...but what if they want me to do bad things...' "What do I have to do?" He asked, "Bad things?"

"Yes...but for a reason." The tall man answered. "To live. And to make things better."

"But..." The small boy said then got quite. "I want to live..." The then said quietly, being smart fo r his age he knew what would happen.

"Good." The tall man laughed. "Exactly what we wanted to hear. Welcome...Neun," He started and paused for a second. "to Inferno."

"Neun?" The boy asked. "What is that?"

"It is your new name." The man laughed. "And you are to call me Scythe Master."

"Alright..." Neun said quietly, accepting the new name. "I mean...yes Master..."
