I'm holding her for the first time today
As her big blue eyes flutter open and she looks at me
I can tell she's smiling
I kiss her forehead and lay her down
And watch her sleep peacefully
In her own little dreamworld
My little angel

She's five years old now
As she bounces down the stairs,
Her red curls falling down her back
She's yelling my name
As she jumps up in my arms
I'm looking into her big blue eyes
And she says,
"Daddy, am I still your little angel?"
I smile and say,
"Of course."And kiss her freckled cheek

She finished school today
She walks to me and smiles
Then embraces me with that familiar hug
As much as I hold back
Tears start to form in my eyes
She just told me that she's moving to the states
With her best friend and boyfriend
She kisses my forehead
Like I did to her 17 years ago
Then she's gone

I return home and there's a note pinned to my door
I pick it up and open it
It's her handwriting, in the beautiful red ink she loves
Then I read it,
'I'm still your little angel, Daddy.'
I smile and wipe away a tear
As I remember
My little angel.
