I don't own DC Comics.
"I'm going to murder you, you little piece of—"
"Language, Gordon!" Jason smirked on the other side of the study, "What would Commissioner Gordon say to know his sweet little angel was about to curse!"
"Give it back to me right now," Barbara gritted.
"What?" the 13 year-old said innocently, "Ohhh, you mean this?" He dangled the hardback book in front of his face, still prepared to sprint away when she inevitably lunged at him … which she did just a moment later.
"You know," Jason said after leaping off the sofa arm and settling himself on the top of the bookshelf, "For someone so interested in cybersecurity, you should really put a lock on this thing. Anyone could get a hold of it!"
"You went through my bag, you little thief!"
"Again … better security, Gordon," he said before thumbing through the pages, clearing his throat and putting on his best Barbara voice, "'August 23rd: Dear Diary, I had the dream about Grayson again." There was a twinkle in his eye as he paused and looked down at her.
Barbara's eyes went wide. "Don't you dare."
"'But this time we didn't even dance first — we were right in bed, my dress half unzipped and his hands all over me."
"Jason … Peter … Todd," the 16 year-old said with death in her eyes.
"'It only got steamier from there. Oh Lord, am I supposed to be having sex dreams about my best friend?'"
"I am going to burn this bookshelf down if I have to, but I am getting that diary."
She was fuming and her hair was disheveled from chasing him and it was pretty damn sexy. Besides, part of the fun of riling her up was getting to see her pant and the accidental bird's eye view of her cleavage was a bonus.
"Barbie," Jason said soothingly, "If you wanted your diary back, all you had to do was say the magic word."
"Oh for fuck's—"
"Nope, that's not it!" he leaned in, "The word is 'Please.'"
She put her hand to her face and rubbed her temples. "Jason … may I please have my possession back?" Jason was a little sad she gave in so soon, but a deal was a deal — he jumped down a few feet away from her.
"Here you go," he held it out for her. When she grabbed onto the diary, Jason pulled hard on it, pulling her with it. Jason had contemplated this moment for a while and he had already anticipated the good two inches she had on him. So when she stumbled into his arms, he made sure to tilt his face up a little when he went in for the kiss.
Her lips were soft and plump and damn, it was worth the planning. It lasted a couple seconds thanks to Barbara in total shock, but Jason knew the longer he stayed in that room, the greater chance she'd make good on her threats. Far sooner than he would have liked, Jason let go of the diary, moved his free hand away from her jawline and took a quick three steps back.
"See you around, Barbie," he said before dashing out of the room.
