Ghosts on a Ship
It was Sikozu's first night on Moya, her room was dark but warm. She was feeling really confident on having a good night sleep until Chiana turned up.
"What are you doing here?" Sikozu looked at the Nebari with annoyance.
"Just came to wish you a good night," Chiana said approaching the new girl with a smile that could only mean trouble, "and don't worry about the noises tonight." She was just about to leave when Sikozu stopped her in her tracks.
"What noises?"
"No one told you?"
Sikozu looked confused. "Told me what?" Her patience was starting to run out.
Chiana walked towards her again and sat on the side of the bed. "A couple of times there have been strange noises on Moya."
"What kind of noises?" She still didn't have the faintest idea what Chiana was talking about.
"Screaming… chains rattling… footsteps. It only happens when someone new comes aboard Moya. When I first came aboard I heard someone running outside my room. When I went to check if there was anyone out there, I saw a drop of blood on the floor. I was going to comm Crichton, but then I saw a shadow going into my room. I thought it could be Rygel, but when I went to check to see what it was, on my bed were chains." Chiana could see Sikozu starting to show a bit of fear on her face, but she continued telling the story. "Later on that night when I was in bed sleeping I woke up hearing footsteps and chains coming louder towards my room, but they stopped only to hear the most blood curdling scream."
Sikozu didn't have much expression on her face; in fact she looked completely pale like all the blood had been drained out of her. There was complete silence as Chiana stared at her with those dark engulfing eyes. Finally, Sikozu said something.
"Are you trying to tell me that there are ghosts on this Leviathan?" Sikozu had a tone in her voice which implied 'I'm not that foolish'.
"Yeh, I am telling you that."
"There are no such things as ghosts."
Chiana got up and walked to the door. Before she left she looked back with a smile, "We'll see." She carried on walking with a smirk on her face thinking to herself, "Yes, that worked. One point for me."
It was just a silly story that Chiana made up to frighten the new girl, but Sikozu didn't know that. In fact she kept reminding herself out loud, "Stupid Chiana she was only trying to scare me. There are no such things as ghosts anyway." But that wasn't calming her nerves down, and to make matters worse Pilot had to switch off all the lights and power on Moya because they were travelling through Tormented space where there were many Peacekeeper vessels.
That whole night Sikozu did not get a wink of sleep, especially since it was dark and below freezing point, all she could do was listen to see if she could hear the rattling chains the blood curdling screams and the footsteps.
