It was late in the evening, and EVE was worried. He should have been home by now. Where was he? Opening in the large door of the truck, she peered out into the night. No sign of him.

It was the first night after the Axiom returned home from 700 years in space, thanks to EVE and her little friend WALL-E finding a thriving plant. The two robots were still unfamiliar with most of the people, only knowing John, Mary, and Captain McCrea by name. Perhaps WALL-E was spending the time getting to know the humans, and lost track of time. Or perhaps he didn't charge enough that morning, and ran out of power before he got home. Either way, EVE went out in search for him, asking any people still up and about if they'd seen him. She even searched the Axiom, where the humans would be staying until they built more permanent residence.

The sun had set when she finally found him on top of one of the trash-cube skyscrapers. He was staring up at the sky, a sad expression in his eyes. No stars tonight; the clouds covered them up. EVE gazed at him for a moment, before she realised what was wrong. WALL-E always admired how she could fly so freely in the sky, without any obstacles to hinder her. While he was stuck on land. He only experienced the freedom once. In space, where he danced with EVE, holding a fire extinguisher. She knew what he wanted; he wanted to fly. No. He wanted to soar!

A metallic sigh shook EVE from her thoughts. WALL-E gazed longingly at the sky once more, then begin to make his way home. EVE watched him, then had an idea. Flying up silently behind him, she grabbed his boxy frame, and as he let out a startled yell, she flew straight upwards until they were well above the was nothing above them now but sky and stars, twinkling gently as they watched the two little robots.

WALL-E now realised who had him, and he settled comfortably into her grip as she held him facing the clouds below them, and flew as fast as she could. The wind whipped into their faces, and WALL-E squinted his eyes in glee, holding out his arms, and letting out a whoop of joy. EVE giggled, pleased she could make her little robot friend so happy. They stayed in the air for hours, though neither knew how long it really had been until they saw the sun peeking its face at them over the clouds. WALL-E took out his solar panels, and charged himself and EVE slowed down a little. She held him close, and he nestled his head into her neck, letting out a contented sigh.

Finally, EVE flew back down to Earth, a very happy WALL-E in her arms.
