Lack of Communication
Elliot was at his house watching a movie when he hears a knock at the door. "I'm coming, I'm coming." He opened the door surprised to see Olivia standing on the other side. "Olivia, what's going on?"
"I can't do this anymore." She walked in and he closed the door.
"You can't do what?"
"I can't continue without knowing what is going on."
"You know a lot of things Liv, so what are you talking about?"
"No, I don't. Tell me what is going on with you and Kathy."
"Oh that's what you meant." He pointed to the sofa. "Go sit down and let me get us something to drink."
Elliot left and Olivia sat down. Elliot returned shortly with two beers in hand.
"Elliot it bugs me that I don't know what happened. Even though you told me that you got separated that doesn't cut it."
"I know I'm sorry 'Liv but there are some things that shouldn't be said at work."
"I know but even after work you stopped talking to me."
"That's what happened." He took a sip of his beer. "I didn't talk to her."
"Why?" Olivia asked as she took a sip of her beer.
"Because…"
"Elliot?" She looked at him and wondered, but she knew what it was.
"I didn't talk to her about my work. I wouldn't tell her the things that we see. I just stopped talking all together."
"Elliot, that's what happens when someone stops talking to their loved one." Olivia got up and looked out the window. "There has to be more to what you were doing."
Elliot started to cry, "Liv, I don't know what happened." He put his hand over his face. "20 years and she walked away," he cried. "You can't just walk away after 20 years."
Olivia looked at him and walked back to him. She sat beside him and gave him a hug. "I know…shh…I know." He put his arms around her waist and cried. "How long has she been gone?"
"Four months."
"What are you going to do? You can't just let her go that easily."
He lifted up his head and said, "She thinks that I'm in love with you." He then buried his head back to where it was. Olivia didn't say anything. "Just hold me Liv. Please?"
That's what she did she held him for the longest time. She would rub his back and the top of his head. "Elliot, I'm sorry." When Elliot didn't say anything, "Are you asleep?" when he didn't answer, she knew that he was asleep. 'Great, he's asleep and I'm stuck in his arms.' She couldn't do anything else except to fall asleep on the sofa with Elliot's arms around her. 'At least he'll get some sleep tonight.' She kissed the top of his head and said, "Goodnight, partner." Then a couple of minutes later she fell asleep too.
The End
