The bail is set at an exorbitantly high price, and Callen thinks it probably has something to do with those idiotic FBI agents. If he had his way, he'd just shoot them both and be done with the whole thing, but Hetty probably wouldn't approve, not to mention the US government. So he holds his tongue and keeps his gun tucked safely away and forks over the money because it doesn't really matter anyway – Sam is innocent and soon they'll be able to prove it.

He drives to the jail to pick Sam up and wonders if they were at least smart enough to put him somewhere far away from all the other criminals, somewhere far away from the men who might have a score they'd be willing to settle with any officer or agent, never mind who it is. But he isn't worried, because Sam is more than capable of taking care of himself. In fact, he feels a little bit sorry for any guy in there who tried to take Sam down. He grins a little to himself just thinking about it, but the car is so empty that he can't hold the grin for very long.

Sam is waiting for him when he gets there, standing large and weary and glaring at the world in general for the injustice of this. Callen walks up and Sam holds his gaze for every step of it…Callen tries to show his anger on Sam's behalf through his eyes, but he has spent a lifetime learning to mask emotion and he thinks maybe it is too hidden for Sam to see. So he reaches him, and claps him roughly on the shoulder, and cracks some joke about prison life that Sam doesn't particularly appreciate. Sam grumbles in a low tone while Callen signs the papers. Callen lets him - after all, none of this is even remotely close to fair.

They walk out to Sam's car together – although, to be accurate, Sam stalks more than walks, his every step an assault on the pavement. Callen glances calculatingly over at him, studying him until he is convinced his partner has not been harmed by his night in prison. Satisfied, he tosses the keys over to Sam and opens up the passenger door. Sam relaxes a little bit at the return to normalcy, but as he opens up his door and starts to fold himself inside, Callen calls his name. He pauses, and Callen sobers as their eyes meet.

"Sam. We're gonna get the guy." He means it as a promise, and Sam knows it will be kept.

"I know, G," he replies, and smiles to show that he never doubted it. Callen nods once, decisively, and gets into the car. Sam follows suit, and starts the car and they are off to clear his name. No other options needed.

AN - I don't really know anything about the process of posting bail, so forgive me for any mistakes. This is just my imagination.
