Title: Liberation

For a while, he stood there and listened. There are no screams or wails, just the crackling of flames engulfing wood and the acrid smell emanating from it. There had been screams earlier, but he had silenced them. For good.
He removes his hitaiate and slashes across it, sparks appearing as his senbon made swift contact with the metal. A sharp piercing sound was emitted, as if the metal itself was making its form of protest. He ignores it.
He watches impassively as the fire rages on.
Like the thick smoke rising into the horizons, liberation beckoned to him.
