Grieving aint easy - Supernatural
On his side, his back to his brother who lay on the other bed, Dean shed silent tears. Each one slipping into the cotton pillow cushioning his head.
His hollow eyes slowly regaining all the pent up emotions he had boxed, chained and buried into the back of his mind, made their way quietly forward.
Yet as silent as the pain came, the burden of it felt like a twenty foot wave crashing into his soul, tearing him apart internally. Racking his body with tremors and soft gasps.
"Dean?" The sleepy voice of Sam made the older Winchester brother swallow. "Hey…Dean, are you alright?" Again. He tried to even out his breathing. Tried to ignore the softness and worry in his little brothers' voice.
Try as he might, he couldn't hold it back. The tough guy image he had been portraying since…well…it just wasn't helping and he knew Sam was aware of it, he just didn't want to break down in front of his brother. Dean was the oldest, he had to stay strong for them.
But after this nightmare…. he just couldn't.
"I'm alright Sammie." He croaked, wincing at how hurt he sounded. The sound of blankets shifting made him sigh, thank god. Sam was going to go back to sleep.
But then he felt his mattress dip, felt his little brothers' hands rub his muscled shoulder reassuringly. So he turned and sat up. Tipped his head in the darkness to see the younger Winchester sitting aside him.
"You miss him." Dean nodded to Sam's question. "You having nightmares bro?" Their matching eyes locked and for a moment Dean tried to think of a snappy come back, some kind of one liner that he was no wuss. Yet he couldn't and instead he felt fresh tears prickle his tired orbs.
"Sam… I'd give any…anything, to have Dad back." Sam's swallowed hard past the lump in his throat as he felt his own eyes threatening to spill. "Anything." Dean drew in a long breath as he collapsed into tears, Sam there to collect him in a long needed hug that he accepted without a thought.
"So would I." He pulled his brother closer, fighting back his own sobs. "So would I." His own voice cracking.
The two Winchester brothers clung to one another like a lifeline.
Two souls bruised.
Grieving the loss of a father was never going to be easy.
The little blue button wants some love...go on!
