Missing Scene: The Ties That Bind.
Mitchell and Dr. Lam in the elevator.
The elevator doors closed and Dr. Caroline Lam sighed. She had tried politely to tell Colonel Mitchell that she just wasn't interested in dating anyone she worked with, but he followed her into the elevator anyway. Although he hadn't said a word, he still had that grin on his face and she had to keep a scowl on her face just to keep herself from grinning like a schoolgirl.
"It's like I said before, I've tried to date military men before—it's never worked out," Caroline said, folding her arms over her chest.
"Yes, but why didn't it work out?"
Another sigh. "You all have this little militant world you like to live in and you can't stand it when it gets messed up."
"I wouldn't mind it," Mitchell said, taking a small but noticeable step toward her.
Nearly towering over her now, she tried to ignore how tall he was and silently wondered how many times this same act had worked on other women in Cameron Mitchell's path. "Oh please, you're text book."
"You don't think I can handle it?"
"You'd freak out the first time I threw my shirt on the bedroom floor."
Mitchell's chin tilted to the side as he thought a moment. "I disagree. I think I'd love to see you throw your shirt on my bedroom floor."
Caroline tried to dismiss the look in his eyes but her face turned from pink to red in an instant. "You know what I mean, you military guys with the pressed uniforms and starched everything--." she said, eyeing his shirt. Then she unbuttoned the first button and Mitchell's eyes shot open. She glared at him and pulled the collar open a little wider. "Let's see how long you can stand it, fly boy."
Mitchell kept his eyes on her. "You think I'm a tight ass?"
Gaining the higher ground, Caroline smiled. "We'll see."
Mitchell shrugged his shoulders, "Doesn't bother me."
He was smiling at her again, hovering even as they stared each other down. She guessed that he would button his shirt before the doors opened but the doors slowly parted and he didn't look away. But out the corner of her eye she saw the familiar figure of her father and tried to play off what had been happening moments before. Caroline walked out of the elevator and Mitchell followed. She listened to her father and tried not to smile as she saw Mitchell buttoning his shirt beside her. Unfortunately, her father saw it too and the look in his eyes as he looked over at Mitchell reminded her of the first time her father came home and found her on the couch with Adam Reardon…but that was another story.
