A/N: Heyoo^^ :D so this is a story me and my best friend (a.k.a Nessa) have been working on for quite some time now and we finally decided to post it here.

Not much to say really, that's just the typical thenth-walker story (I believe that every LOTR fan has been through this.. )

! - We decided to edit the story so if you're not new to the story but already read the first chapters, we recommend you to check them again.

Lots of 'thanks' to our amazing beta, TheMusicalDevil

Enjoy^^

Grace's POV

This is a story about how my best friend, Nessa and I got transported into a fictional world, went on 'the adventure of our lives' and actually ruined some lives on our way (but we did some good things too!). Oh, and Ness's sister was there as well!
But to tell the story, I guess I have to start from the beginning.

It was Halloween and most people were getting ready for it. Nessa was really excited. One week before the big night she had been talking non-stop about the party at her best friend, Martin's house. He lived outside the city in a large house and his parents were out of town, so it was supposed to be a great party.

However, thanks to my grandmother, Violette, I couldn't go. Unfortunately for me, Nessa didn't know that yet. Violette found the party idea unwise, reckless, immature and a lot of other things I don't know (well, I know them but I don't like them much).

But there is another reason why she wouldn't let me go. She says there are portals which open on every Halloween night. Not portals to the underworld, of course! We're not in a horror movie. Portals to Middle-Earth. You know, the place where there elves, dwarves, wizards and, of course, hobbits live. How does she know that? Well, we're partly from that world.

Apparently, Violette comes from a very old witch race. They are immortal; some believe they appeared through elves and Maiar, though knowing my own family members, I highly doubt that. They lived on Middle-Earth for many years, but some of them used their power to do bad things. As a result of many wars with the other races, most of them were defeated and sent away, or killed.

However, as I said, some of them were bad. Violette is not bad, at least not in that way. But when she gets angry, it's best not to get in her way. After all those events, she and the rest of her kind decided that it would be wise not to show themselves to the world. We all live like normal Middle-Earthians now, and most people believe us to be little more than a legend these days, but there are some that know the truth. But that's another story.

Anyway, I'm getting too distracted. I'll eventually add to that story later. For now, that's all you need to know.

So because of the aforementioned reasons, my parents had always feared for me. After other events, they feared they might lose me, and to prevent it, they sent me to another world! Well played, parents. Now I'll be safe, but I'll probably never see you again. I couldn't go alone, so my really odd and sometimes too strict witch-grandmother had to come too. She didn't come because I needed a babysitter, of course. I would tell you the real reason she's on Earth if I knew but unfortunately, she hasn't told me.

So that's my story. Now let's return to that Halloween night and the soon-to-be angry Nessa, who rang me two hours before the party.

I was sitting on my favorite couch, watching TV as the phone rang. It was Nessa, of course. The time to tell her I couldn't go to the party had come.

"Hey Grace, I was wondering about tonight. Have you picked a costume yet? If you haven't, that's okay because I have something in mind. We're going to have to go on foot tonight, unless you can find a car, 'cause as you know I broke mine and she-who-must-not-be-named won't give me hers. You know what happened when she heard about that incident; I should be thankful I'm not grounded for life. Of course, that could be because she couldn't remember what had happened afterwards, you know how her memory is… "

Nessa began talking too fast as she always did when she was very excited. 'She-who-must-not-be-named' was her mother. Not her real mother, as Nessa was adopted, but the closest thing she has to one. However, she wasn't the best mother in the world. Apart from Nessa, she had another daughter. When we were younger, I used to make fun of my friend, telling her she was just like Cinderella with her mother and sister. Pam, her 'sister', was one of the popular kids at school. She had a lot of friends, the perfect boyfriend, her hair was always amazing and everyone loved her. That's at least what she thought. Nessa and I had a very different opinion. "Grace? Are you still there?" I heard Nessa's voice again. It seemed I'd been silent for too long.

"Yeah, I'm listening..." I answered, but still wasn't paying much attention.

"Great, so let's meet at my place after half an hour?" Nessa asked eagerly. The time to set off the bomb had come.

"Ness… I need to tell you something." I said slowly. "I can't come."

"Wait, what? Why? I thought you liked Halloween too? We're going to have so much fun. Is it because of the costumes? I promise we won't be hobbits this time." She started up again. She was the biggest Lord of the rings fan I knew. Last year she made me wear a hobbit costume for Halloween.

"No, it's not that. I just can't-" I stopped as I heard the door opening. I guessed it was Violette. "Ness, I'll call you in a bit, okay?" I asked, hanging up the phone before she could answer.

"Grace?" I heard Violette yelling from the doorway. "Are you here?" I fought the urge to roll my eyes.

"Of course I'm here. Where else would I be as you won't let me go anywhere?" I half-muttered, although I knew she would hear.

After sighing deeply, Violette came into the room. "You know why I do this." she said. "It's very dangerous for you to be out on Halloween-"

"-because of the portals, I know." I finished for her. "But if there were portals, wouldn't people travel from the one place to the other all the time?" On second thought, where have all those fanfictions come from? "You never tell me anything anyway."

"I will when the time comes." Violette argued defensively.

"Oh, great. So that makes it… never?" I asked sarcastically. I knew I wasn't right because all she was trying to do was protect me, but I was angry anyway. I wanted to know what was happening! I wasn't five. And I wanted to be able to go out wherever I liked! At least she could give me one good reason why I should fear the portals I've never seen.

I turned my head from the TV and met Violette's gaze. Bad idea. She looked really angry. I felt the ground shaking beneath me and everything went absolutely pitch black. Only Violette was illuminated in the center of the room. I'd never seen her so angry before about something so little. "If you find all of this a joke then feel free to leave and do whatever you like, but know you'll be the one that would carry the consequences after that!" Her voice echoed in my head and I felt shivers running down my spine. This was unusual, even for her. I was usually quite mischievous but I never particularly looked for trouble. Most of the time things just happened. I wanted to say something, but all I could do was just mutter one "Sorry."

Violette started calming down as the room began getting lighter. "I won't be home until late tomorrow night. Try not to do anything too stupid while I'm gone." She said in an even voice and left without saying goodbye. She looked calm, peaceful even, thought I knew the truth. She didn't turn to look at me and when she exited the room, she closed the door quietly as she always did. It was like everything was fine - but it wasn't.

I stayed there for a while, staring in the direction of the door before I was snapped out of my trance by the phone ringing once again.

Nessa's POV

I was so excited for tonight! I couldn't wait. It would be so amazing; I'd planned everything. I could've even convinced Martin to drive us home after his party.
And then Grace just told me she can't come. If she'd slapped me, I probably would've react better. Why couldn't she come? And then she just hung up the phone on me!

I went out of my room and down the stairs. It was one of the few times when I was completely alone in the house. Usually Pam, my adoptive sister, and my 'mother' were here. Sometimes I wondered why she even adopted me. Pam was my age, which helps, I suppose. My 'mother' doesn't look as if she loves children (except hers) much. Her name is Ann Green. I never learned to call her 'mom' as she never acted like one, just like Pam was never my true sister.

After I went to the kitchen and made myself coffee, I went up to my room again. Grace usually laughed at me for drinking coffee with too much sugar and sometimes even putting cacao in it, but I liked it sweet.

I decided I'd call Grace once more. She was sometimes very odd, like her grandmother. I'd never actually met any of her family members except her grandmother and she never talked about the others either. Like I said, odd. Even creepy sometimes.

I took my phone, dialling the familiar number again. This time Grace quickly picked it up. "Hey... is everything all right?" I asked her.

"It's just perfect." She answered. It sounded like she was hiding something, but I knew it was hard to make her talk if she didn't want to. I decided not to push her; hopefully she'd tell me later.

"So about tonight.. you won't make it. Why?"

"Oh, that? It was a joke. I'm coming to your place in a bit, okay?" She said. Weird, or what?

"Okay, I guess. I'll be waiting." With that I heard Grace hanging up the phone on the other end of the line.

What was that? Grace never made those kind of stupid and humourless jokes. I should really ask when she comes. That is, if she doesn't kill me for the costumes before that.

Grace's POV

Really? Darth Vader? Really? And his friend Johnny the clown?

Nessa and I were walking down the road, looking that ridiculous. When I showed up in her house, without a costume, she looked quite happy about it. I should have known she was up to something big. After running to her room, she came down not five minutes later, wearing a black costume and a mask. I suspected she couldn't see very well in the mask, although she insisted she was fine. However, that wasn't the scariest part. She was carrying a colourful costume and huge, orange wig. I'd have thought she was trying to dress me up like Effie Trinket, if there wasn't a big sign on the costume, saying "JOHNNY THE CLOWN". That's when I understood that the real shit had happened.

"Ness, I feel stupid." I said as we were walking along.

"Oh, come on! You look amazing!" She added cheerfully as she turned to me but almost tripped over a rock on the road. We were already outside the city and were walking towards Martin's party. There weren't any people outside and fog was covering almost everything. Typical beginning for a horror movie.

"No, I don't. How is it that you're in a Darth Vader costume and I look like one of those lunatics that would appear in children's dreams?" I scowled.

"Oh, come on! It's supposed to be a funny costume!"

"Well, it's thrilling enough." I said and then muttered under my breath, "I preferred the hobbit costumes."

Nessa was probably about to say something when suddenly a bright light appeared from somewhere between the trees. Oh, shit.

"Let's see what is it!" Nessa insisted.

"Ness, I think it would be best if we just leave it."

"No! Come on! I want to see it!"

"I don't think it's very wise…"

"What? Are you scared?" Nessa winked at me as she walked over to where the light was.

"Ness!" I called after her as I took a step towards her.

"What?" she turned to me, this time sounding annoyed.

"I don't think we need to go." I said, looking behind her. "It's already coming." Nessa turned around just in time to see the bright light illuminating everything around us, making it white. Okay, maybe those portal things weren't so ridiculous.

Third person's POV

Frodo was sitting on a table in the Prancing Pony with Sam, Merry and Pippin as they drank their mugs of ale, wondering where Gandalf was. The pub owner had said the wizard hadn't been seen for months, which disturbed Frodo, but he still hoped everything would turn out okay at the end. However, he was soon snapped out of those thoughts as he heard his cousin, Peregrin Took talking to a bunch of people, explaining something he shouldn't have been.

"Sure I know a Baggins!" Pippin was saying. "Frodo Baggins. He's my cousin!" A sudden panic went through Frodo as he stood up and quickly started making his way over to Pippin in order to make the other hobbit stop talking. However, he never reached his intended destination as he was pushed from the crowd and fell backwards. He felt the Ring of Power, which he was holding, flying out of his hand. He tried to catch it but instead, the ring landed on his finger, turning him invisible to everyone around.

The people were shocked and scared, but this feeling was soon replaced by an even bigger surprise. In that moment, a bright light appeared and suddenly two girls landed in the centre of the pub. They were dressed very strangely – one of them was wearing all black clothes and a black mask and the other was dressed in rather colourful clothes and her face was painted. Everyone instantly forgot about the poor hobbit, all of the attention now focused on the two newcomers. Then the one in black spoke.

"Crap! Where the hell are we?"
