Chapter 1: Coming...home?

Black combat boots hit the floor as one foot stretched out to step out of a large airplane. A steady rhythm picked up as the black boots began to walk across pavement walking beside other boots of various colours.

While the many other boots around began to pick up the pace and run these specific boots stayed at a steady walk. Lucy was back, but as many of her fellow veterans ran after spouses and children she didn't have anyone waiting for her.

She walked with pride but a blank look was plastered on her face. She had her blonde locks done in a tight bun behind her head at the base of her neck. The top of her head adorned her green camo printed hat, it was low on her head as it laid only an inch or so away from her eyebrows. It cast a shadow among her brown eyes as it blocked out the intense rays of the beating sun.

Her camo pants were tucked into her boots as they ruffled around the boot before straightening out as they traveled up her leg. Her jacket was button to the top button and on her left breast laid a pocket with her last name written right above on the same side on her bicep laid her insignia ranking, Staff Sergeant. A long eight and a half year journey it was for her to earn her proud ranking when she first joined she was merely young fresh meat to the other marine corps, she truly grew into a fine soldier.

She continues her stride to her car a 2006 Dodge Ram, she begins to place her hand along the back doors handle when suddenly her mind flashes, that's right, he's not with her. A sorrowful emotion spreads across her face but she is quick to submerge the feeling as once again her face is painted with the same blank expression. She shakes off the heavy feeling in her heart as she steps a few places forward to open up the door and clamber into her old vehicle, the feeling almost foreign to her.

How long has it been since she had driven her own car like this? Longer than she can remember that's for sure. She inserted her keys into the ignition and she heard the low humming of her truck as she slowly backed it out of the parking lot feeling almost like her younger self learning to drive as she was getting used to driving again.
