A/N: This is my first fic. So feel free to leave any kind of helpful feedback. This was written in response to alkali-feldspar's challenge not to use the words: lust, crush, feelings, like, hold, kiss, hug, lips in a Gio/Betty story.

A Different Kind of Girl

Gio was at his deli thinking about the one subject that had him most preoccupied as of late: Betty. When she called him from Mode today requesting two sandwiches, an egg salad on white and a pastrami on wheat, he'd been a little surprised. Usually she went to his deli to get a 'witch. He'd been even more surprised when he got there and she greeted him with an enthusiastic embrace. He had to admit, though, it felt awfully damn nice. Then he went and ruined it by bringing up Egg Salad. He didn't even know what provoked him to do it. Well, he did know, but he didn't want to think about it. After his date with Hilda, he figured out why Egg Salad seemed to irk him so much.

What was it about Betty Suarez that had him so… what was the right word? Fascinated? Charmed? Besotted? She was certainly different. Not just from the Mode girls, but from all girls really. There weren't a hell of a lot of women that would have a "quack and woof" fight with you, that's for sure.

How many assistants would be willing to lie about their boss being in the CIA to get him the wheelchair of his choice? That's was a hell of story she had come up with, if he did say so himself. If she'd just give herself a chance to follow her ambitions, she'd be an amazing writer.

And how many people would have come up with the name "Hero Worship" for his deli? Truthfully, if he hadn't already made out about a hundred copies of "Gio's Deli" and a pickle with a smiley face, he probably would have used her idea. Just like "A Hole Lot of Fun" always makes her smile, "Hero Worship" never fails to bring a grin to his face.

And who else would have made a comment that the mingling of the flavors in his sandwich tasted like purple? Okay, he had to admit, even for Betty that was weird. But that one comment had meant more to him than any of the many compliments he'd gotten by other people since his deli opened.

Now that he was thinking about it, it shouldn't surprise him that Betty was willing to get into a relationship with a man that had a pregnant ex-girlfriend in another state, knowing her heart would get broken in the end. It was so very different than what most other people would have done in her situation. Different was what was so special about Betty. And Betty was defiantly special.

Maybe he should go apologize to her about Egg Salad. Her faith in Egg Salad and the fact that she wanted to still be with him despite all the obstacles they had was what made her unique. And he wouldn't changer her uniqueness for the world.

Yeah, he'd go apologize to her just as soon as he could get away from his deli.
