Dancing (Rated K+)
"Dance with me."
Natsu froze. It sounded more like a demand than anything else. Just why the hell would Gray Fullbuster of all people come up to him, at a guild party, and order him to dance with him? The ice stripper had to be up to something.
"No," Natsu replied shortly, turning his back on the ice mage. But a hand shot out and stopped him.
"Dance with me," Gray demanded again.
"Why should I?" Natsu snapped. "You're just gonna embarrass me or something in front of the whole guild, or start a fight, so just leave me alone, ice bastard."
Natsu swore he saw a hurt expression cross Gray's face, but it was gone too quickly for him to make sure.
"I'm not going to embarrass you. I just want you to dance with me," Gray said, losing his patience.
The dragon slayer knew he shouldn't do it, but what choice did he have?
"Fine," Natsu grumbled, sulking as he went back toward the ice mage. "But only one! And if you embarrass me or some shit like that, I'm setting you on fire."
Now Natsu thought Gray actually looked pleased—even after the threat—but he wasn't sure why. And the ice mage looked way too eager.
Before he knew it, Gray had him in the middle of the dance floor and they were dancing—much to Natsu's horror—to a slow song. That meant closer contact! Closer contact to Gray Fullbuster! Gray, his crush of all time!
Natsu blushed when Gray pulled him even closer to his body. Attempting to make things…normal between them—like anything between them was ever normal—the dragon slayer cleared his throat. "So why did you want to dance with me?"
Gray looked down at the dragon slayer in his arms, seeming to contemplate Natsu's words. "I wanted to hold you."
Natsu's jaw dropped. Well, that was blunt! "What the hell is that supposed to mean?"
"It means," Gray began as he started leading Natsu outside the doors of the guild, "that I…I…"
"You what?"
They were finally outside now, away from everyone.
"I like you, okay?" Gray retorted. "I…like you."
Natsu felt his insides turn to jelly. YES! Natsu screamed inside his head, doing a little victory dance up there as well.
"Aren't you going to say anything?"
Perhaps he hadn't responded as quickly as Gray would have like, because he was looking at him very strangely right now.
"What do you want me to say?" Natsu asked, hoping to get a little more out of the ice mage.
Gray's eyes widened. "I was hoping…never mind," he said, turning away from the dragon slayer.
However, Natsu stopped him this time.
"I like you, too."
Stopping in his tracks, Gray spun on his heel to look incredulously at the dragon slayer. "What?"
"I said…I like you, too," repeated Natsu nervously. He started fidgeting with his hands when Gray failed to respond.
And before he knew it he was in Gray's arms again.
"Go out with me," he demanded.
Natsu narrowed his eyes. "If you think I'm gonna listen to you barking orders at me, you got another thing coming!"
Gray smirked. "Fine. Will you go out with me?"
"That's better," Natsu smiled, taking Gray's hand and urging him to walk with him.
"You didn't answer my question, little dragon," he teased.
Natsu bristled at the new nickname, but somehow he knew Gray didn't mean for it to hurt him. Now that he thought about it, it sounded like a cute pet name. He could get used to that.
"You didn't say 'please,' Gray."
And with that, Natsu ran off laughing, a sputtering ice mage hot on his tail. Natsu figured that this was going to be the experience of a lifetime and he couldn't wait for it to start.
