A Poem for Sunny
by Starflight
I'm not the best at poetry,
I admit to more historical tastes.
But, Sunny, I wanted to say something.
Verse is all I could scrawl in my haste.
I've not the steadiest rhythm or rhyme,
And distraction is rife in my head.
But, Sunny, I thought a song would be nice -
Oh, I'll just make a star chart instead.
No, Starflight, that's silly.
Stars and moons will not do.
Only sweet composition could describe,
The things that I think of a dragon like you.
You're just so amazing, so bright, so alive...
No, no.
That's not what I wanted to say.
The words were so clear in my head today.
Why won't they fall back into place?
All I can think of is your pretty face.
Wait, no! That's not what I wanted to say!
You're so much more than your beauty!
Your heart shines brighter than a thousand suns.
Your compassion's as deep as the sea.
Starflight, that's ridiculous.
Don't show that to her.
The ocean doesn't suit wings of night.
And the effulgence a million suns,
Couldn't compare to sweet Sunny's light.
You know what?!
I'm tired of this mess of a poem.
I'm tired of trying to write.
It's time to lay it out, right and raw.
Yes! Sunny, let me tell you of this dragon I saw...
She was kind and caring.
And really quite daring,
Thought you wouldn't guess that at first.
She hatched from an egg found in dry, desert sand.
And her friend Starflight was...the worst.
She had lovely eyes, like none of her kind.
She danced with the grace of a Queen.
Her claws were so gentle, her words, hopeful fire.
Her scales, the most alluring I've seen.
When she reached out and hugged me,
In wings gold and warm,
Her spark carried down to my heart.
I felt it there, glowing, in the midst of the storm.
Her hope has carried me from the start.
That dragon I saw, I see everyday,
If not in the flesh, then in dreams.
Through all of the lies spun around both our lives,
She found where the faintest light gleamed.
And when I was broken, betrayed, and alone,
When my nightlight of illusion was taken,
It was her turn to see me and lift me back up,
By that dragon I saw, I awakened.
To that dragon who saw me,
These words I said,
"I think you're the only dragon who sees me the whole way I am and likes me anyway."
I admit, they were all that came to my head,
But, Sunny, it's the truth.
I just want you to know,
That wherever I wander, wherever we go,
That dragon I saw beside me will fly,
Who laughs when I frown,
Who sings when I sigh,
She's the one I live for, the one I adore.
Oh, Sunny, I don't know...
But still I implore...
Tell me if you feel the way that I do.
Was it a surprise? Did you know from the start?
Sunny, I'm fine with a broken heart.
I just want to know (knowledge is my virtue)
Did that dragon I saw, did she, did you...
Really see me, and love me too?
