Jane Parker Makes a Confession
As Jane Parker was led forward on the scaffold to speak her final words, she looked out on the crowd and at that moment had a moment of clarity.
"You want to say a few words?" A man she could not identify from memory asked with pity.
Jane turned to the crowd and shakily took a breath before beginning.
"I ask forgiveness for my sins…from his gracious majesty…from god…and from all of you..."
Jane was about to turn and ask if she should say more, when she pushed ahead and continued. She knew she was about to die and a part of her could not allow that without relieving herself of all sins, one big one in particular.
"...For I have lied for to long…the late Queen…Anne Boleyn…a true innocent in more ways than one…never was there a more faithful wife…or loving mother…charged with a crime that never was committed…I lied for my own selfish pleasure..."
Jane looked out and forged on, feeling free for the first time in years.
"...George never sinned against his majesty with his sister…but another man…the musician…Mark Smeaton…in jealous rage…I committed a sin and lied…in doing so, I assisted in killing a true innocent..."
The crowd was full of whispers, the noise becoming louder. Countless members of the crowd called out for the king to make to appear.
Jane had one last piece to say before she took her leave with a clear conscience and light heart.
"...I ask forgiveness from Elizabeth most of all…with this, I now take my leave of you…and this world..."
Jane leaned toward the man who first spoke to her.
"Shall I say more?"
"No, my lady, that was sufficient." He spoke, with trouble, knowing that this would have to be reported to the king post hast.
"Thank you."
With her final words spoken, Jane stepped closer to the chopping block and the guards helped her kneel. She leaned forward and laid her head upon the block and with a final breath, she died.
AN: I always felt Jane Parker got off easy and should have been held accountable.
