The Poem in the Diary

Writer's comments: o.k. this is my first try at a fan fic. So bear with me. I'll try to use details and make this sound o.k. because if you couldn't tell already, I'm kind of nervous about the quality of my writing. I hope you all enjoy, though! As I said before, this is my first time writing, and I don't mean to nag you. But, write REVIEWS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

o.k. I'll shut up now. On to the story...

The leaves in the green forest rustled in the breeze. The wind whipping through the many branches of the trees, created a quiet whistling noise. This noise became more and more annoying with each second, as a pair of silver ears twitched in irritation. The pale blue glow from the moon shone on a seemingly displeased hanyou.

The whole gang had a long of day fighting off demons in order to protect a village that they happened to come across in their travels. Inuyasha saw no reason to protect the villagers. After all it was people just like them who had caused him so much grief as a child. Everyone, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and kagome, had all fallen asleep. They were tired from the strenuous battle.

Inuyasha, however, could not sleep. The sweet unconsciousness would not take him tonight.

"Feh" the silver haired demon shrugged his shoulders. "I don't need to sleep."

He looked around, keeping a watch over everything. He felt that if anything was going to happen to his friends, it wouldn't happen while he was around. His eyes cast over everyone. But, Shippo was nowhere to be found! Panic flooded Inuyasha's mind for a brief second until, he caught a small movement out of the corner of his eye. He turned to find a tiny fox demon curled up in Kagome's arms. A wave of relief washed over Inuyasha, as his panic seemed to leave with his next breath.

He stared up at the moon, until his eyelids grew heavy with exhaustion. Then slowly closing his eyes he drifted to sleep. Every night now, he seemed to fall asleep more quickly. It was either because he was more tired, or because he felt safer with a certain person by his side. Still, even in his safe and comforted state, nightmares haunted him. Nightmares about... Kikyo. I n these hellish dreams, he would be calling for his love.

"Love... my true love, don't leave me!" He would call into the darkness of his mind. "Not again..."

Every time, Kagome would appear calling his name and reaching out to him. It always seemed like she was trying to get to him, to comfort him..., to do anything, but just sit there. But, every time she reached Inuyasha he would push her away. He was always doing that. In his dreams and in the feudal era. Anytime, she would try to help him, he would always refuse. And he always had a snappy remark to make afterwards. This trait of his seemed to send Kagome packing every time.

"Kagome..." Inuyasha snapped out of his sound sleep. His vision was still a little blurry from his nap. He blinked for a moment, letting everything come back into focus. A rustling noise captured his attention. Inuyasha turned to find Shippo snuggling deeper into Kagome's sleeping bag. He seemed cold. Inuyasha shivered for a minute. The hair on the back of his neck stood on end, as the frozen breeze blew through his tangled mane.

"Damn wind!" He said while turning away in defiance.

More rustling and some whispering made him look once again towards Kagome's sleeping bag. His eyes widened as he realized he had missed something from his last glance. He now knew why Shippo was cold. Kagome wasn't in her sleeping bag!
