The Sea Hates Her Now
The sea hates her now. Ever since she had turned her back on Percy and Olympus for Luke and the Titans, the sea had sought revenge. Even though she had asked for forgiveness many times, Percy (and the sea, his subconscious) had never forgiven Annabeth.
Sometimes Annabeth felt the urge to go to the ocean and remember; to remember Percy and to breathe in the salty sea air she was so familiar with. The waves would never let her. Every time she came within a few yards of the surf, the tides would go crazy and waves would threaten her. She knew this part of the world was forbidden to her—and she knew she deserved it—but she desperately craved her old life and her old self.
Annabeth knew that her punishment wasn't as bad as, for example, Calypso's. Siding with the defeated Titans had earned Calypso an immortal lifetime on Ogygia, while Annabeth was fairly free to roam the earth. Only the oceans forsook her.
But wait. Even though Calypso was stuck on Ogygia forever, she still had it better than Annabeth. At least Percy still loved Calypso. This thought made Annabeth experience the familiar whirlwind of emotions yet again; regret, anger, jealousy, pain. Annabeth definitely had plenty of pain.
When Annabeth turned, she didn't do it for the Titans. She did it for Luke, to try to rescue the old Luke. Obviously, that had failed. After the last battle, the battle of Percy's 16th birthday, he and Annabeth met again. At that instant, Annabeth knew she had made the biggest mistake of her life.
It was an epic battle, and Percy was clearly the hero. He, unlike Annabeth, stayed true to the gods. Therefore, the gods defeated the Titans—most notably, Kronos/Luke. Kronos was cast into Tartarus again and Luke was sentenced to a horrible afterlife in the Underworld.
Annabeth knew she should have been, she would have been, and she could have been happy, if only she hadn't betrayed the gods. However, she is not happy. She will be lonely forever, longing for Percy and his forgiveness, yet never attaining either.
This is sad! I hope this never ever happens in the books, but I just had to type this up. I'm not going to make this into a two-shot, because I don't really have any more ideas for this one. I'm writing another, longer, series of one-shots, but it won't be on the website for a long while. I'm such a procrastinator! Anyway, enjoy and please review!
