Chapter 1: The Link
INTRO
Ever since they were born, they were always together. Like two peas in a pod. The link between them was so strong that no argument had ever broke it. No hate had ever damaged it. No relationship had ever changed it. They were even closer than most siblings because the presence of their parents were virtually not existent, mostly due to the fact that they were working all the time. This bond they shared was also forged through the hardships they went through together. Their past has forged their future with one another. With this, the bond they shared can never be broken. At school, she was extremely popular among her peers, acting friendly with everyone she knew. She was possibly the most loved girl of her school. He was the shadow, the one nobody knows, or cares. They were polar opposites to each other. Despite their differences, they were two in the same. Opposites attract, or so goes the saying.
Hachiman's POV
It was midnight, nothing but darkness. Why am I awake at this god forsaken hour?
Peaking my head out of my bed covers, I saw this blank face that was partially illuminated by the moonlight passing through the curtains of my bedroom window. Her entire body was shaking, and her hand was on the door knob my bedroom door.
"I'm too young to die!" I shouted out in fear. Well, not really fear.
"Gomi-chan..." Komachi pouts as she switched on the light.
"Oh, it's you Komachi-chan...do you need something?"
"I had a nightmare and ..." I smiled.
"Come in. Whatever for you, Komachi-chan. That must earn me a good amount of Komachi points, huh?" I said with my usual tone of voice.
"Heh. Thanks Onii-chan!"
I swear. Whenever she says that, I can't help but smile at that stupid pet name. She climbed onto my bed and taking up much needed room. Without giving it a second guess, I gave her the whole comforter. She realized it as well.
"You will get sick!" She said.
"I'd rather be sick than you! More Komachi points for me! Heh."
"Siscon." Komachi concluded out loud. But I am no siscon! I just love my sister very much. There is a difference between the two, you know...I honestly wouldn't know what I would do if I never had Komachi with me. How would I survive? My life is already depressing as it is.
The next day, as per usual morning, Komachi woke me up at 7 a.m, and we ate together. Heh. I will never grow tired of her cooking. She is quite the chef. With that being said, whoever she marries will be a very lucky man. Tch. That also means Komachi will have no time for me! I will be destined to spend my life alone! No. I won't have anyone have her...and no. I am not a siscon. It's just there will never be anyone worthy of Komachi! Without warning, my thoughts were interrupted. She asked me random things about high school, the service club...and I haven't really been paying attention to her, but she suddenly threw me a ridiculous question that caught my ear.
"Do you prefer Yui-chan or Yukino-chan?" I gave her my famous blank stare.
"Neither." She just shook her head.
"Onii-chan, sometimes I worry about you. How will you ever find the one you love if you keep being so picky!" I stared.
"Who needs love when I have you, Komachi-chan? Gee, that must earn me-"
"Yes, Onii-chan. You're on a roll. You get lots of Komachi points." She smiled at me and started laughing. I love the way she laughs. She's really cute when she laughs...what? I can't call my own sister cute? Tch. Enough chit-chat. It's time to head off to school.
"Oi. Let's go."
Komachi went ahead and climbed up onto the rear of my bicycle and off we went...yes, it's illegal. But I won't let my sister walk today. Besides, I don't feel like walking right now either.
While we passed through the city, she pointed out a pet shop and told me to buy some cat food this evening. Lucky Kamakura. Eating then sleeping. That's my idea of living. Work? Never. I wonder if it would be better to live off as a parasitic cat. Probably much better than living as Hachiman Hikigaya. Finally we arrived at the school's garage. What a long way between home and high school. I'd probably cut class more often, if it wasn't for my queen, Komachi, and Hiratsuka my…thirty-ish year old looking sensei? I think she is about thirty. She also has the will of a man. So scary. I left Komachi there and I wandered around in the halls. Heh. There were plenty of students everywhere, and no one noticed me as usual. Good. I quickly made my way into my classroom and sat in my chair. After a while, Yuigahama, along with her friends went entered the classroom. Using one of many special talents, stealth Hikky, I listened in on their conversation. They were talking about her especially, and from what I'm hearing so far, she sounded quite flustered and embarrassed. Typical behavior for Yuigahama. I lost interest fairly quickly and took out a book from by bag. A harem action light novel dealing about swords and whatever. It was pretty good so far but the quality was still lacking. The author was a mangaka that I knew unpopular, trying to redeem himself in his work to get famous. I think he tries way too much on his work. As a result, his work was unsatisfying. Kinda reminds me of Zaimokuza.
"Yahallo, Hikky..."
Ahh, the tone of Yuigahama's voice sounded far more interesting than the light novel. Maybe she has something good to say this time. So I closed it and looked up at her. In less than a second, I can see that she is shaking and blushing. Tch. What's her issue?
"Huh?"
"Do you want to...eat with me...during lunch?"
I threw a quick glance at her friends, I can see them whispering to each other. Hmm. Are they making fun of me? Yuigahama of all people would never do that, at least not intentionally I mean. As for Ebina, Hayato and Tobecchi? I don't see why they would do that now, and besides, they owe me. Heh.
"If you want, sure I guess."
"Thank you Hikky!" And just like that she ran off. Jeez. I don't think I will ever understand that girl.
Hiratsuka entered the classroom and we started class. Hours passed. Rather than listen in on Sensei's lecture, I'm more inclined to think about the food I want to eat ever so badly. What? I can't help it. I'm starving. I'm excited to dig into the bento that Komachi made me. The very thought of that bento makes me want to drool! Ahh, Komachi. She goes through all the trouble to make my food in the most delicious way. Komachi is truly an angel just like Totsuka-chan! Ehhh...yeah. I made my way over to my favorite spot for lunch and Yuigahama was there. Shouldn't she be in the service club with the ice queen? Oh, that's right. She wanted to eat lunch with me.
"Oi." She waved to me.
"Yahallo, Hikki!" Sheesh. Can she be any louder? Not like anyone is here...but I like eating here because of the peace and quiet. And she is ruining it.
I sat down next to her and took out my bento. You've really outdone yourself today, Komachi. Itadakimasu! While I ate with Yuigahama at my lunch spot, we actually talked quite a bit. This was quite unusual because she was never this excited with me before. She was about to talk about her dog, Sablé, when Komachi came. Heh. Even when Komachi is hanging around her friends, she sometimes finds the time to hangout with me. That is worth plenty points to me. She made her way towards us.
"Yahallo!"
"Yahallo, Komachi-chan!"
Komachi looked at me with feigned surprise. "Hey Onii-chan. Didn't you say this morning that you preferred neither Yuigahama-chan or Yukinoshita-chan?" She cocked her eyebrow at me.
"Oi. It's not what you think. We're just eating lunch. It's not a date." I said.
"Is this true, Yuigahama-chan?" Komachi smirked and gave me a smug look..
"Oi...She doesn't think it's..."
Yuigahama started to play with her hair. "I...don't mind...uhh, I have to go to class! ! See you at the club, Hikky! Bye, Komachi-chan!"
