Disclaimer: I swear I don't own Eragon.

"But why?" Eragon pleaded. "I know I have it in me, just let me try it once." Eragon look up Saphira with big eyes. He was hoping she would give in but her expressionless face said otherwise. He tried to touch his way into her thoughts but she blocked him like giant might block a fly. He was sure his plan would work even if Saphira was weighing him down with her negativity. Why couldn't she see it from his point of view? He sighed and looked back down at the mango he held in his hands. He already knew what words to say in the ancient language, and besides, if he could bring pools of water to the surface of a desert couldn't he slice a mango?

He started to say something to Saphira but he just barely looked up in time to see her tail end, leaving him to catch up. He frowned, taking a bite from the mango. He knew Saphira just wanted him to take Brom's advice by not experimenting with magic when he did not know the full extent of his power but he couldn't help it. Curiosity still lingered in his mind, but he shifted his ideas to the side. He would think about that later. He shivered as some nearby weeds brushed his arms, awakening him to the scenery. It was actually quite nice, it had been awhile since he was able to roam about without much worry. He stopped by some willows that provided excellent shade. Leaves scattered as the wind lightly pushed them along the grassy path they wandered upon. He could see trees of all different kinds scatter the hill side. They all had the same tint of orange and yellow as the season had changed them to the same hue. It was getting late and the cloudless sky was darkening.

"Come along, little one." Saphira called to him. He tossed the remains of the mango behind him and ran up to her. From then on they spent most of their time taking in the scenery, as they wove up and down the hill sides. Making their way to the heart of the forest where they would make camp. It was incredibly dark but he had no problem seeing with the moonlight streaming through the trees, and it didn't hurt to have Saphira's eyes guiding him.

It wasn't until they reached a camping point, that Eragon questioned Saphira about her reasoning. "Why won't you let me try something I'm strong enough for?" he started. "I mean I know the words, I've taken on much bigger feats and what could go wrong from slicing a mango with magic?" Saphira paused before answering.

"Yes, you have accomplished big things Eragon. In fact some that no rider has ever accomplished in a life time but bear in mind that it's the little things that often get people." Eragon listened to her words but still didn't quite understand them.

"But how am I to know how to do things and how to get better if I can't try first?"

"Don't be hasty Eragon, and most of all don't worry; I'm sure these things will soon become clear to you."

"I'm guessing you don't want me to try it?" Eragon couldn't help but laugh to himself.

"No, I suppose not, not till you're ready. Besides, you might end up slicing your head off." Saphira stated, showing some humor.
