No matter where he hid, trouble seemed to find him.
And boy, did trouble have a name.
He had snuck off to the supply tent, because everyone knew they couldn't move out until the Riders arrived, and thus everyone had apparently decided to come to him with all their questions, comments, and concerns, numbered neatly 1-100.
He was solidly determined to ignore everyone until the supplies list had been thoroughly reviewed (for the fourth time, but it did no one any good to admit that.)
"Sir?"
Kel's voice was distant, but he could hear it over the general din caused by Third Company.
"Sir?" Her voice was much closer this time, and Raoul tentatively poked his head out of the tent. Behind her, what looked like ponies were gathered at the entrance to the camp.
"Are the Riders here already?"
"Sir, just… come here."
Raoul followed Kel, apparently just in time… oh goody.
"SERGEANT JUSTICE AND COMMANDER VENGEANCE, UNITE!"
Evin Larse's voice carried throughout the camp as he and Dom ran, from opposite directions, fists in the air. As their fists made contact, the two made loud sound effects that, really, couldn't be more obnoxious if they had tried.
Kel's face was in her hand.
"So, you found him," Buri walked over, patting Kel on the shoulder as she passed.
"It's alright, they're idiots, but we knew that already."
"I thought you said it would be at least another day," Raoul mentioned to Buri, and she shrugged.
"Our ponies moved faster than I thought; besides, yesterday, today, tomorrow, what difference does it really make?"
Raoul looked pointedly at Evin.
"A village in need of aid?" He exclaimed, striking a pose with his chin in the air.
"Why, that sounds like a job for Commander Vengeance and Sergeant Justice!" He put his hands on his hips and puffed out his chest.
Raoul sighed and turned to Buri. "I would have liked another day of usefulness out of my sergeant."
Behind him, Dom loudly proclaimed, "Of course it is! TO THE STABLES!" as he sprinted in the general direction of his mounts.
Flyndan, standing nearby, apparently overhead Raoul's last comment. "Wouldn't we all…" he said, with a long suffering expression as he watched the two men run off.
It was evening before Kel ran into Miri, but when she did, she couldn't help but ask.
"Did the Riders get here ahead of schedule? Milord seems to think so…"
Miri hoisted her saddlebags onto her back before setting off towards the Riders' side of the camp.
"Well, there was this one point when Evin yelled something about "LIGHTSPEED" and took off, so, probably."
As she walked away, she added, "There's really no stopping him, so I didn't even bother trying."
