AN: I've been looking through some of my old fics that I never posted/never finished and came across this one that I wrote two years ago and for some reason, never posted it. Hope you enjoy :)
"Painful"
She stared at the white stick in her hand before flinging it across the room.
"Lily?" She heard his voice say outside the door.
"No."
"What?"
"No." She repeated.
He twisted the knob, found it locked and she heard a low "shit" before the door popped open with only the work of a wand.
He walked right past her and picked up the stick that was on the ground.
He squinted at it, not having his glasses on at this time of night. "No?" he muttered.
"Yes," she replied quietly.
"Oh," he said. Then he enveloped her in his arms.
"Pained"
"Don't." He grunted, rolling over on his side to hide.
"If you would just let me- "
"No."
"James." It wasn't a statement, it was a plea.
"It was my fault, my fault he got hurt."
"Don't do this, don't make yourself feel guilty-"
"Damn it, Lily, I'm allowed to feel whatever I want to. It was my responsibility to keep him safe. Mine."
"But Peter's going to be fine, the healer said so, " she pleaded.
"Please, just let me be by myself."
But Lily refused to leave, choosing to rather lay on the bed beside him in silence.
"Painless"
It was a shot to the heart, a bang on the ground, and everything was white.
There was another boom in the distance, but all he could focus on was looking around the blank room, frantically searching. For what, he didn't know. He looked and looked and looked, squinting his eyes and turning his head this way and that.
Then, out of nowhere, a pop. And she was there, right next to him, reaching for his hand and squeezing it tightly in her own. It was in that second, that he knew that what he was searching for was found.
