He held on to the bouquet, second guessing the decision as he pushed the doorbell. The bouquet paper crinkled under his fingers, and he looked down at them, alarmed. "Shit," he whispered.
"Caleb?" Tyler opened the door and leaned on the frame, grinning.
"Uh hey," Caleb smiled and tilted his head slightly. "Yeah, sorry I'm late."
Tyler shrugged. "S'fine, the movie isn't going anywhere. Neither am I."
"Here," he thrust the finely wrapped flowers at him.
He held the flowers carefully and inhaled the fragrant scent. "Roses," he murmured. "I love roses."
Caleb smiled, relieved then. "Yeah, yeah, I know."

"Of all the things that you're capable of doing, this is not one of them," Tyler nudged the offending object with the tip of a wooden spoon, his nose wrinkled up with great distaste.
Caleb opened the kitchen window, fanning the smoky air with a pair of oven gloves. "I can too, it's the microwave that's all messed up," he huffed, coughing a bit on the smoke.
"Oh sure, blame the inanimate object," Tyler muttered. He pinched the edge of the blackened, ripped bag and rushed over to the sink, dropping it in. "Only you could burn popcorn this badly."

Caleb sat with the bowl of freshly made popcorn, Tyler's version this time. He bit his lip, distracted from the vampire movie for the umpteenth time when Tyler shifted closer to him.
The brush of their fingers in the popcorn bowl, the smallest fleck of salt on Tyler's lip, such subtle teasing, it was driving him mad.
"You're thinking too much again."
Caleb smiled, slipping his arm around Tyler. "You think so?"
"I know so," Tyler leaned into the embrace, his head to Caleb's chest.
He brushed a light kiss over Tyler's forehead. This dating thing…yeah, he could handle this.
