Ethan didn't have a storybook childhood. He had always been the nerdy kid, the kid who instead if playing football outside would prefer to be in the library surrounded by books. This meant that he was often bullied, occasionally even by his older brother and his mates. "Nerdy nibbles" was how his brother would refer to him. He'd always been treated as the lesser man. It had almost ruined his life. "Hello, my name is Doctor Hardy, could you please tell me what the problem is." Ethan said as he swiped back the curtain of cubicle four. "Well, if it isn't nerdy nibbles?" A patronisingly rude voice came from the bed. "A-a-Aaron?" Ethan stammered. "Huh, still as pathetic as ever!" He scoffed. "I've hurt me leg!" He smiled evilly. "Um, ok, we'll send you for an X-ray and we'll g-go f-from there." Ethan struggled to get his words out. "Puh-puh-pathetic!" The injured man snarled as Ethan quickly left the cubicle. He reached the phone and dialled through to radiology, he booked his patient in and then shakily put the receiver down. "Nibbles, what's wrong?" Cal asked sensing that something wasn't right. "The patient in cubicle four. I know him!" Ethan explained. "It's Aaron Jacobs" he elaborated. "That scumbag who threw you down the stairs?" Cal asked in a tense voice. Ethan nodded. "I'll deal with him. No one messes with my brother and walks away!" He said cracking his knuckles. Ethan dived in. "No. Cal it's fine!" He smiled nervously. "Ok, but let me know if anything happens. I've got your back!" Cal announced walking to his next patient. "Mr Jacobs, I'm here to take you to X-ray." Max said pulling back the curtain and helping the patient into the wheelchair.
Lofty handed him the iPad containing the results. He explained to Aaron that he had a displaced fracture that would need to be realigned. He handed him some entonox and began to the procedure. As he applied the slightest amount of pressure, Aaron began to mouth off at the young doctor. The curtain of the cubicle swished open violently. "Problem gentlemen?" Cal scowled. "Yeah, this imbocilic pansy is hurting me!" Aaron shouted. "Well, this so called imbocilic pansy is my brother, and if you continue I'll do more than hurt you!" Cal retorted in the younger mans face. He then straightened himself up and with a look of pure thunder, walked to the foot of the bed. He pushed Ethan gently out of the he way and gripped the mans leg, he manipulated it back into place with a loud and satisfying crunch. "By the way, Aaron Jacobs, I know exactly what you did to my brother in school. If you ever come near him again, I will hunt you down and make your life a living hell. Now piss off before I change my mind!" He boomed. Aaron got up and left the ED as fast as his crutches could carry him. "Caleb, thanks." Ethan mumbled. "No problem, Nibbles. Any other baddies you want me to get for you?" Cal smirked. "I know I'm no batman but still!" He smiled at his brothers slightly puzzled expression. "Who needs batman when you can have your own Dr Knight in shining armour?" Ethan smiled up at his safety net. He knew his brother would always have his back.
