Chapter 1
It is the first day of the school year.
I decided to walk than take the bus, deliberately avoiding my classmates.
The day has a grey color, like the clouds above the little town. Familiar smells surround me as I'm walking towards my old neighborhood. The forest is close to the buildings and I know the one almost hidden by the trees.
It looks like we left it.
The old exterior and the fainted paints appear more tired. The garden is unkempt as I expected it to be. Everything is the same and a sense of relief washes over me. It looks like none has been here lately. I have to be sure, so I approach the fence where a "FOR SALE" sign still stands out. Feeling a little better, I start to walk faster and then I see them. A woman and a young man are coming out of the front door. They lock it behind them and the next thing I know, the "FOR SALE" paper is crumbled in her hands. They get in a fancy car and I can see the woman's sympathetic smile and the man's hard but beautiful features and then I run.
It has been two months since we lost our house.
