Sookie and Sam
Sam Merlotte was a nice guy. So nice, in fact, that he'd starred in many of Sookie Stackhouse's fantasies. Strong, yet gentle, strawberry hair and medium build with a nice backside, he was Sookie's boss at his bar, Merlotte's.
Sookie was a telepath and could read minds, although reading Sam's was hard. Instead of coherent thoughts she got only glimpses, single words, even, sometimes, and she wondered why. He'd asked her once to read his mind but she refused, knowing how he felt about her.
Sookie would be lying if she said that she didn't at least somewhat reciprocate his feelings, although acting upon them and thinking them were two entirely different things.
When Sookie's car was in the shop and Sam had given her a ride home, however, acting upon feelings was just what Sam did when he kissed her. She returned the kiss, wrapping her arms around his neck, and steam began to fog up the windows in the cabin of Sam's truck. Hot herself, Sookie Stackhouse had to pull away to get out of Sam's head, as his thoughts were hotter than her temperature.
"Sookie, I---"
"Sam, don't," Sookie interrupted. "I know," was all she said before exiting the truck, and Sam watched her go inside her grandmother's house. After a moment he started the engine and drove home.
