"The New Girl"

Derek Greene didn't know what he was doing there. Planet Bang. Really? He was not the kind of guy to go to Planet Bang. He preferred hitting the pavement with his board than hitting the dance floor with his moves. And then he saw her.

She was beyond beautiful. Growing up in LA, Derek had seen a thousand beautiful women. None of them compared to her. The New Girl. Tianna. Even her name was perfect.

Now normally, Derek Greene was a pretty sensible guy. He was one to get plowed over by looks. Sure he liked to look. But to actually spend time with a girl with no personality? No thank you. But she had personality. The first time he had seen her, a skate board tucked under her arm, no makeup, and a fiery temper, he could barely speak. He must have sounded like an idiot. But even a new girl would find out quickly that Planet Bang was where everyone who was or wanted to be anyone went.

So. Here he was. Planet Bang.

He tried to act cool, casual, when she caught his eye from the dance floor. And he was pleased to see she looked almost as uncomfortable as he felt.

"Hey, man." Michael Saratoga came over to where he was standing. "What are you doing at Planet Bang? Finally come to watch the band?"

"Umm…" Tianna had started to dance, and Derek couldn't keep his eyes off her.

"New Girl?" Derek nodded. His friend chuckled and slapped his shoulder. "Why don't you go over and talk to her?"

"I can't." Inspiration dawned on him. "You go talk to her for me!"

Michael furrowed his brow. "Are we in elementary school again?"

"Please!" His friend looked at him like he was crazy, but heaved a sigh and went over to talk to the beautiful girl.

He watched as Michael walked over, eyes of nearly every girl on him. He watched as Michael tapped Tianna on the shoulder. He watched as Michael leaned down towards Tianna's ear to say something.

And then he watched as Tianna tipped her head to the side, long beautiful curls falling around her shoulders, big beautiful eyes gazing up at him. He watched as Tianna snaked her arms around Michael's shoulders. He watched as her hips began to sway to the music.

A tight knot formed in his stomach. And as he watched his friend and the new girl dance, he realized a girl like that could never go for a guy like him. And Derek Greene had never been as jealous of that fact as he was in that moment.

His shoulders sagged and he headed for the exit of the club. He always preferred hitting the pavement with his board rather than the dance floor with his moves anyway…

So wrapped up in his thoughts, Derek didn't even notice the two thugs that brushed past him, headed straight for the New Girl, Tianna.
