AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is a poem I wrote for the Poetry Unit in English. The unit was on Lord of the Flies, and I really didn't like that book, but when we were told to write a "Free Verse -go crazy!" poem, I was inspired by a song called The Islander by Nightwish, a great band. What this has to do with LOTF? Up to you!

Disclaimer: I do not own the song or the title. Enjoy! please review :)

The Islander

The Islander speaks,

Do you listen, do you hear?

Ever so faintly,

Whispers of words, like leaves stirred by a breeze.

The Islander calls,

Do you care, do you dare?

Softly he hums, like the distant sound of a shell.

He whistles a melody, new and unknown,

Is it soothing, is it forlorn?

The Islander cries out,

Do you understand, do you shout?

The Islander sings,

Will you stay, or will you run?

He wanders by day, he strays by night,

Lies in the shadows, away from sunlight.

Sits perched upon a rock, a throne, watching the moon,

And throughout the air echoes his tune.

The Islander calls,

Must we despair, must we fight?

For sounds are enchanting, wishes of Night.
