She closed her eyes, hoping it would block out the pain. But it didn't work. Of course it didn't work. Nothing did. The neverending pain - when had it begun? All memories were blotted out by the single urge that flashed on the back of her eyelids. Escape. She had to escape the pain. But there was no way out, no way to free herself from the devastation. No way to free herself from the tragedy that was her life, today, tomorrow, and yesterday. But even as she thought this, a memory burst into her mind, freeing herself from the pain for one heavenly moment. She saw herself, clinging to a tall, blonde women as she was told her name for the first time at age two. She clung to that memory, drawing strength from the women's smile as her body succumbed to the pain, her thrashes weakening as the pain drained her of energy. Her eyes opened once more, glimpsing the face of her tormentor, then closed them tight, hiding within her memory.

I am Nei.
