"Well, Freckles, you don't know everything." Kate caught up with him. "Well, James, I think I would know better than you." Sawyer strode ahead in stony silence. Kate rolled her eyes. What was wrong with him? Lately he had been so… belligerent. Kate's thoughts came to a halt when she nearly walked into a tree. Locke and Sawyer spun around. "Kate, are you okay?" Locke questioned. "Yeah, thanks. I'm fine." Locke gave her an encouraging smile and turned and started walking again. She didn't understand really why Jack hated John so much. Locke had never been anything but nice to her. Sure, he made mistakes, but so did Jack. Locke stopped, pointing silently to a boar track. He motioned for Kate to look. She saw a grown boar, rubbing against a tree. He then motioned for her to walk quietly around behind it. She did, and the boar became alert and charged. But John was ready with his knife. He grabbed it and slit its throat. Sawyer shot Kate a glare as she knelt to help John. They hung it up and started to clean it. "It's ok, I've got it. I can do this." John said when Kate tried to help with the boar. But then, Kate heard a movement in the grass. "John, would it be all right if I explored a little?" Locke looked up from the boar. "Sure. But Sawyer should probably come with you. Just to be on the safe side." "Ok." Kate rolled her eyes again as Sawyer strode up. "So, Boss, where we headed to?" "Shut up." Kate said brusquely as she started walking.
Sawyer sat down abruptly. "I'm resting." He said as he gasped from exertion. "Fine." Kate walked ahead. 'Hurry up." She said coldly. "Well, don't get all mad at me 'cause I don't want to go tramping through the damn Jungle of Mystery for hours." He spat. "I'm not! You know what, James? Why don't you just go back?!" She spat fiercely. "Fine!" Sawyer got up and angrily stalked through the trees. She sighed with relief. She froze as she heard the noise again. She felt like she was being watched. She spun around and came face to face with a woman about 25 years old. She had bronze-ish brown hair with startling gray eyes. Kate grabbed her knife. "Who are you?" Kate said shakily. The woman looked scared. "Hey. C-calm down. I'm not armed. I-I'm Elisabeth. Elisabeth Morgan. Please don't hurt me. My boat shipwrecked. Or maybe boatwrecked. I-I don't know." Kate returned the knife to it's holder. "Really? I am a passenger of Oceanic 815. We crashed here. Elisabeth brightened. "Are there more of you?" "Yeah." Kate replied. Kate yelled, "LOCKE?" she heard him "YEAH? KATE? ARE YOU OK!?" She yelled back "I'M OKAY!! I NEED YOUR HELP!!" Kate sat down on a tree root while she waited for Locke.
"Kate. Kate!" Kate awoke as Locke shook her awake. "Where is she?" Kate leaped up to her feet. "You mean her?" Locke pointed to Elisabeth who was a few feet away patiently studying a plant. "Yeah. Come on. Let's get her to camp." Kate said. Elisabeth got up. Locke didn't ask any questions as they walked in silence back to the beach. They arrived, being closer to the camp than Kate thought. "I can handle her. You go rest. You look tired." Locke said kindly. "Thanks, John." She yawned and headed toward her tent, where she quickly fell asleep.
At the same time….
"You okay?" Jack's voice brought Juliet back from her haze. "Yeah." Jack nodded. He was helping her pack her stuff up so she could move into his tent. They were ecstatic. Juliet noticed a girl wearing a bright green tank top and cargo shorts walk in with Locke. "Who is that? She asked. "I don't know. Let's go find out." Jack jogged up to join the large crowd around her. Juliet hung back She had a feeling in the pit of her stomach. She had a deep feeling of foreboding as she joined the crowd.
