The kids had all gone to bed. John and Olive stayed up and listened to the radio.

It began raining. At first, it was light, but then it began to get heavy.

"At last!," said John.

"Hallelujah!," said Olive. She walked to one of the windows and opened it. "It's cooler already!"

"Say, Olive, I've got a wild idea!"

"What's that?"

"Remember 20 years ago, when we walked home, after the barn dance?"

"And it began to rain, and we got soaked!"

"Let's do it again!"

"But we were teenagers, then!"

"So? You're still a teenager, to me!"

"Oh, John! Yes, let's do it!"

They quickly bared their feet. Then they opened the front door and stepped outside.

"It IS much cooler, now!," said John

"Yes. And it feels so nice on my feet!," said his wife.

They walked along the side of the road to the back. The rain completely soaked them in less than a minute.

Olive looked at herself. "I'm a mess!"

"I think you look beautiful, all wet!"

She smiled. "You're crazy—but thanks!"

In the back of the house, the rain had turned the dirt into mud puddles. John stepped into a larger one and boyishly stomped his feet in the mud.

"John, not only are you crazy, you're also silly!"

"Join me!"

She did this. "This is fun! I feel like a kid, again!"

"So do I!"

A crack of lightning appeared, then the rumble of thunder.

"We should be getting back in, now," said Olive.

"OK."

They walked back to the front door and went in.

"Let's get out of these wet clothes!," Olive whispered.

"OK."

"And that WAS fun!"

They kissed. Then they picked up their shoes, went upstairs, dried themselves off, and put their night clothes on.

Unbeknownst to them, the kids, waken up by the storm, watched the two of them in the rain, from their windows. Some of them shook their heads in disbelief, while some of them smiled!
