One Year
A year of tears
A year of silence
A year of nightmares
A year of guilt
A year of blame
A year of cracks appearing in their marriage
A year of dust gathering in a room
A year of two used to three
A year without their little girl
She remembers when she got the call
She was chatting with Mitchie over something trivial
Her phone rang
It was Nate
He was at the hospital
Nora had been hit by a car
Her little girl
She was still alive
She was breathing when she got there
She died with each hand held by her parents
He remembers when it happened
He was taking her to school
He had her tightly by the hand
But not tightly enough
She was in the road
There was a car
They collided
It was all in slow motion
He called Caitlyn when they were at the hospital
Nora hung on just long enough for her Mommy to get there
She doesn't blame him
Nora had bolted from her side before
He blames himself
Nora had never bolted from his side before
She cried
He couldn't
She needed him
He needed her
She didn't know how to help him
He didn't know how to reach out to her
A year later things change
He cries
She stops
But she still needs him
And he still needs her
And she screams at him
He yells at her
He holds her
She clutches him
They're together
They enter her room
The dust is everywhere
Her books are open
Her toys are out
Her bed is unmade
Clothes are everywhere
Her teddy bear stares at them
They stare back
They cry
But she's still gone
But they're together, they're united and they're in love
Together they can get through this
