"Talking"
"So, this is it, huh?"
Weevil looked up at Rex. "Yeah, I guess it is."
An awkward silence filled the air. Rex cleared his throat. "Do you think we'll win?" he asked finally.
Weevil shifted his gaze towards the dino-duelist. "We have to win, at least this once. If either of us loses…" Weevil didn't have to finish his sentence for Rex to understand the importance of this duel. This time they would both duel using the Seal of Orichalcos, and if they lost, their souls would be taken for the Great Leviathan. Rex shuddered at the thought.
They were both currently at the trail station, ready to part ways and duel their greatest rivals. "We'll will this time, though," Rex said, trying to cheer Weevil up. "After all, we have the Orichalcos on our side."
Weevil tilted his head so that the sunlight shined on his glasses, preventing anyone from looking at his eyes. 'How he always knows the right angle to have that happen, I'll never know,' Rex mused. Weevil dug his hand into his pocket, pulled out a Duel Monsters card and held it up to his eyes. "Are you positive we can win?"
Rex shifted nervously, not sure how to answer. He hoped with every fiber of his being that they could win, but was it impossible to lose? No. Did the Orichalcos give them an edge? He use to think so, but know he wasn't so sure. At the time when he and Weevil had been accepted, he was just going on with whatever Weevil did. But he was sure that Weevil's thirst for revenge had driven him to make the decision that whatever he could do to get back at Yugi Moto, he would do, even if it meant he might lose his own soul in the process. More then once Rex had questioned his friends sanity and wellbeing. But he figured that as long as they were both still alive and had all limbs intact, they would be fine. But now it was their souls on the line. If he lost, he would accentually lose his life. And if Weevil lost…he didn't want to think about that. He couldn't live without his partner.
He smiled at Weevil. "Of course you'll win, Weevs! You're the best duelist I know!" Weevil still seemed unsure. Rex out his hand on his friends shoulder. "Don't worry. I know you'll win."
Weevil turned his head towards Rex. "I'm not worried about me. I know I'll win. I'm worried about you." Rex could see Weevil's eyes fully for the first time since they arrived at the train station. He could see the worry and fear laced within them. Weevil, afraid Rex had seen the emotion in his eyes, cast them downward and quickly shuffled the Orichalcos card back into his deck, a little too quickly, as some of the his cards fell onto the ground. He kneeled down to pick them up at the same time Rex did. Their hands brushed and Rex could feel himself bush. He handed Weevil back his cards as they stood up.
"Thanks," he heard Weevil say, though it was barley audible.
"No problem," he said.
He looked over Weevil's shoulder and saw that the train he was supposed to get on was here. "Well, I gotta get going. Goodbye, Weevs."
"Wait." Rex felt Weevil grab his arm to prevent him from going on the train. Next thing he knew, he was in the insect-duelist's embrace. He wrapped his arms around the smaller and of two and held on to him like a lifeline. "Promise me you'll come back, ok,"
Rex said.
Weevil nodded into Rex's shoulder. "I promise."
He pulled back so he could look Rex in the eyes. "Be careful."
"I will be."
They hugged one last time before Rex stepped on the train just as it was taking off. Weevil stood watching until it was just a speck on the horizon. When it was out of sight, he smiled sadly to himself.
"Sorry, Rex, but promises were meant to be broken."
