I apologize in advance if this gives you certain feels. I got the idea for this in class and I just HAD to write it.
Enjoy!
Flashback- 1 year ago
SHIELD had been busy that day, hearing the news that one of their best agents was down for the count. The biggest problem, who was going to tell Agent Natasha Romanoff that her husband, father of her four year old son, was dead.
"What's going on? Any news on Clint?" Natasha strode into Agent Hill's office, holding the hand of a very sleepy looking Charlie.
"That's why I called you in here. You might want to sit down." Maria said, motioning to the chairs pushed up against the wall of her office.
"Is he okay?" She was worried now. Clint said that this was going to be a particularly hard mission and knew he might not make it back. She was prepared for the worst, or so she though.
"He's dead, Natasha. Shot through the chest and pushed out a window eleven stories high. We're having the body brought back so he can have a proper funeral. I'm so sorry it happened like this."
For Natasha, it seemed her world just stopped. Clint was dead and there was nothing she could do about it. Her entire world fell apart in a matter of seconds.
Putting on her emotionless facade was a hard thing to do; feeling the tears well up and slid down her cheeks wasn't an easy thing to hide.
"Mommy why are you crying? When's daddy coming home?" Charlie asked, stirring around on her lap.
"Daddy isn't coming home anymore, alright? He's...He's gone away for a while and doesn't plan on coming home." She said, trying to make it easy for a four year old to understand.
Natasha had seen many children cry in her life, but nothing was more heartbreaking than her own son crying over the death of his father.
Present Day-
A year ago her world was shattered beyond repair.
She'd moved on. Continued on with her life and raising her little boy. Sometimes she caught him talking to him, telling him about his first day of kindergarten or about the new friends he made. She'd always smile, wishing he was still here to have an actual conversation with Charlie.
She convinced herself that she would never find another guy like Clint, and that it would be a very long time until she go back out there again.
She even started writing letters to him, thinking that maybe one day he'd come home and read them. She knew it was physically impossible but she did whatever she needed to to keep his memory alive.
Dear Clint.
I miss you. It's hard not having you around anymore. Everyone misses you, even Stark. He doesn't admit it (something about it hurting his ego.) but he gave an amazing speech at your funeral that I'll never forget.
Charlie misses you too. I saw him talking to you and I hope you heard him. His sixth birthday is coming up and he's getting so big now. He looks just like you too. He's got your hair and nose.
I know you're not coming home but I wait for you everyday. Hoping you'll walk through the door with that stupid smirk on you face. You'd say something along the lines of 'Think you can get rid of me that easily Tasha?' and all would be good. It's a stupid fantasy but it helps when I miss you.
Never forget how much I loved you Clint. Remember the first time you said I love you? In the middle of a battle in Budapest. Fury refuses to let me go to Budapest anymore, only sending the other agents if something is going wrong there. Don't tell Fury but I secretly went a few months ago.
I can't wait till I see you again.
I love you.
-Natasha.
Okay I'll admit I got a little teary eyed towards the end. Hope you like it!
