1) Lady of Power: Worthy of the Crown. Wherein young Jack Teague tries to distinguish between a perceived threat and a possible future one. Can you say slave trading?

The bloody unfairness of it overwhelmed me then, twisting my insides until my chest ached and I had to fight for my next breath. She must have seen the letter fall to the floor 'cause her warm hand rested lightly on my forearm 'afore I could touch my throat. I mighta even heard a soft, watery sob as she leaned in to kiss me. "Be safe, my sweet Jack, and I beg you do not try to see me again."

"Angelina…"

'Course, my lass had gone 'fore I could think of more, the voice of her fiendish brother naught but a grating echo in the quiet hallways.

My heart says she'll be worthy of the Crown, my guts says sneaky Beckett will betray it.

And me.

2) Which Way Lies True. Wherein Jack should have known better than to go into the pond despite Calypso's eerie warning.

Jack groaned, attempting to raise himself onto his elbows to see the face attached to the quiet voice above, but his limbs rebelled at the strain and dropped him. He cursed under his breath.

"Here, lad," the voice said solicitously. "None of that, hey?" A solid-muscled arm came from somewhere to his right, lifting his shoulders gently off the blanket. "Take another day, maybe two for the swellin' ta go down."

"Bad?" Jack managed, turning his attention to the swollen redness encircling half the right side of his ankle. This time he saw the two tiny black holes in the center over the heel and shuddered. "How bad?"

"Seen worse of the like," the voice above his right ear said flatly. "Some puffy yellow, then awful green 'afore…" He made a teeth-grating sawing sound that chilled the back of the pirate's neck.

Jack swallowed. "I'd really prefer to leave me limb right where it is, thanks. Attached and all."

The voice deepened with a chuckle. "Musta been the boot what saved ya, lad."

3) Misplaced Hearts. Wherein Elizabeth contends with Daniel, a neighbor's scruffy boy whom appears to be more observant than an innocent child should be.

The boy pursed his berry-stained lips, pressing curiously, "And if I was ta say… I did see 'em?" His animated eyes grew larger at the challenge and he trotted over to her door and shoved it wide in front of her, as if to show this silly woman how easy it was to get inside her rickety house.

"Wait, I know I latched that when I left," Elizabeth remarked half to herself, entering the small, but comfortable cabin. "Daniel?"

"Two men here," the boy insisted, skinny arms flailing about the tidy interior. "Saw 'em myself, Missus Turner!"

"You saw two men here?" Elizabeth looked about her small dwelling skeptically, turning in a half circle to include the modest hearth area. Nothing seemed disturbed at first glance, yet something felt different about the place that she couldn't identity. Not yet.
