A short story from the times before the massacre. One of these precious moments that both brothers, apparently, are trying to erase from their memories now /
I do not own Naruto. Unfortunately for myself the whole series idea belongs to Masashi Kishimoto.
Dreamers
'Nii-san...'
Hearing his little brother's voice, Itachi turned his head in the direction it had come from, too tired to move, and gave Sasuke rather a tired look.
'Shouldn't you be sleeping already?' he remarked.
The little boy just looked at him with an unreadable expression on his face, which made Itachi wonder what his brother could be thinking about.
'Can I sit here, with you, for a while?' Sasuke asked.
'I don't mind,' the older boy sighed and turned his attention to the starry sky above him.
Sasuke, satisfied with the answer, rushed to take a seat by his beloved brother's side and took the opportunity to hug him tightly. For a while the boys were just sitting in silence
'Did you have a good day, Sasuke?' Itachi smiled gently, stroking his brother's hair.
'I diiiid...' he did his best to stop the sudden urge to yawn and Itachi couldn't help smiling seeing how his little brother was losing his battle with tiredness little by little. The younger boy paused for a while.
'We were talking about our dreams for the future...' The second yawn was hidden behind a small palm.
'Oh? And what is yours?' the older boy asked. To his surprise, Itachi felt that he did want to know the answer to this question.
'I told them...' another yawn interrupted the younger Uchiha's little speech. 'I told them I would like to be like you, nii-san.'
Itachi looked at Sasuke with sadness in his eyes.
'That's something you should never wish for...' he whispered so silently that his little brother could barely hear it. Fortunately, Sasuke was too sleepy to comment on that remark.
After a longer while, half-asleep Sasuke managed to ask one more question.
'Do you have any dreams for the future, nii-san?'
Itachi absentmindedly started to stroke his brother's hair again. A longer while passed before he finally answered.
'A few...'
'I mhmm see...' Sasuke murmured something that could barely be understood as the tiredness had finally defeated him and the boy fell asleep in Itachi's laps.
The older boy was sitting in silence, still stroking his little brother's hair.
'Just a few dreams...' he whispered. 'However, I'm not sure if any of them are really mine...'
The End
I know that my writing style is weird at best :P
