Man, I am on a roll with the sad one-shots tonight. Hope you all enjoy, and please review.
Frost
Her toes crunch the ice-dusted grass. She leaves her bare feet, exposed to the cold, harsh weather outside. The people walk past, not noticing her, or not caring. It's so cold. She crosses her arms after adjusting her white bow in her dirty, oily blonde hair. She wants to be warm. She wants to go home. She wants to find her brother, but in the maze of soldiers, she can't find her pony-tailed twin.
"Len? Len!" She cries over the crowd of people welcoming the warriors back. She can see tons of boys and men, their families greeting them, bringing them home. The probably wrote when they would be home. Len never sent a letter back to her.
She calls out again, only to have someone grab her shoulder. She whips around, excited, only to find a young man with blue-ish black hair staring at her sadly.
"Are you Rin?" He asks, but doesn't wait for an answer. "You must be. You look just like him. I'm Kaito."
Rin stared, mouth agape. She has millions of questions for him. Who is he? Does he know Len? Where is her brother?
"Is Len okay?" She blurts out.
Kaito shook his head. "Your brother gave up his life on the battlefield to save another group of boys. It was a brave thing to do, fearless, and I'm sure your family would be proud of him for committing such an honorable deed. I'm so sorry for your loss.
No. Rin shook her head, trying to shake away his words, but they bounced around in her head, hurting each time a word left his mouth.
"Here." Kaito handed her a red-stained yellow tie with a Treble Clef embroidered on it. The one she embroidered. The one that she made for Len.
She turned. She ran. She couldn't do anything else. Her feet ached as she ran, slapping concrete with full force, chilling her heart with the fresh coat of frost over the dead grass.
