A/N: just a little something I put together to let everyone know I survived Hurricane Ike and not yet gone bonkers from more than a week of no electricity (computer powered by generator). Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha.

Seeing Is Believing
Sesshoumaru always had an eye for detail; the highly skilled advantages of his demonic sight allowed him to observe the tiniest, biggest, and even the oddest of things. With this in mind, he believed that he had more or less seen all that the gods above had created. . .especially the oddest.
And what was more odd was that he had the perfect proof of this statement staring him in the face.
To put it simply: a small, kinky-haired, village orphan.
Rin.
By name and description alone, no one would ever have thought she was among one of the weirdest, most indescribable beings Sesshoumaru had ever come across.
And as a perfect example, he recalled just the perfect incident that occurred the day before yesterday.
Sesshoumaru had just come back from one of his Naraku-tracking-missions when he had smelled it; the putrid scent of a lizard demon...blending with the honeysuckle scent of his human companion. His demonic speed kicked in quickly, and he soared passed tree tops, hopping from branch to branch in mere milliseconds.
Once he reached the campsite, he was expecting to see Rin crouched behind an attack-mode Jaken. . .
. . .what he wasn't expecting, however, was it to be the other way around.
"No! Bad lizard!" With one hand perched at her hip, Rin raised the other hand to smack the snout of a huge 9ft lizard looming over her measly 4ft"4in.
"You leave Jaken-sama alone! Didn't anyone teach you to pick on people your own size!?"
The lizard looked as taken aback as he was, and it snorted threateningly at the girl.
Which only served him another smack on the snout.
"All you are is an overgrown bully!"
The lizard demon silently pointed to himself in shock and disbelief. Rin nodded with her arms tightly folded to her chest, her foot tapping agitatedly.
Sesshoumaru looked on silently, though by now his presence should have gotten the attention of the lizard demon. . .could it be that it was more afraid of Rin than him??
This was also proven, as when Rin pointed an accusing finger to the demon, it flinched back as if burned.
"Go home and think about what you did! And if I see you pick on any of my friends again, you'll have to deal with me!"
The lizard demon nodded hastily, then stomped off as fast as his oddly-shaped upright legs could carry him, rushing past Sesshoumaru, the Sesshoumaru-sama, the most feared Inu-youkai in the western region, as if his being was nothing more than an ant on a leaf.
Rin tutted to herself softly, mumbling something about lizards who have no manners before her eyes finally focused on her mighty caretaker's presence. Brown orbs lit up and her feet skidded across the ground in a carefree frolic.
"Sesshoumaru-sama! You're back! I've missed you so!"
He wanted to say something...anything. But as he stared at large innocent orbs that not but only a few seconds ago had burned with the fiery hot coals of justice, he quickly decided that the best thing to do was not say a word. And with a turn of his heel, he waited for Ah-Un to finish up with his dinner in a nearby bush and Jaken to sit upright and straighten himself out before heading on into the horizon just over the awaiting hill.
He thought he had seen everything...that is until he met Rin. Now he's seen everything.
