It was like being washed clean. Will hadn't felt this good in ages, and he wasn't sure he should feel this way at all. It was good, the way Jack's hands fit in his own. Yet it was wrong; it hurt Elizabeth. And Will loved Elizabeth, loved her like a sister. And it hurt her to see him with Jack, but she wouldn't be seeing him anymore, not anymore.
"Don't worry about her, lad. She'll get over it."
And the freighting thing, the thing that let him leave Elizabeth in the heat of the night, was that it was true. And he knew it was true, knew Elizabeth didn't need him like Jack did. Because Jack needed him; oh, how Jack needed him. No one would look after Jack the way Will would; and Elizabeth had Norrington. It hurt still, but only a little.
Of course, Will would only let these thoughts side track him when he was alone, because Jack always knew what he was thinking. It didn't matter how, he just did. And no amount of wondering would ever let Will figure out how. Because he was Jack Sparrow, and no one ever could figure him out, could they?
"Jack, how old are you?"
Jack never really answered this question. Will thought it was odd, how he never answered. The only thing he ever said was 'Not to old' and, well, nothing was too old if it was Jack. Will thought that Jack must have been as old as the sea, because Jack always talked as if the sea and he went back, way back, before the beginning of man. And Will thought it was right; Jack was one with the sea, after all.
"Are you as old as the sea?"
And Jack would always nod, smile and nod and tell him yes, he was. Because he knew it to be true as well, knew it and love the fact that is was true. He loved the sea, loved it almost as much as he loved Will. And Will would ask him what he should call him; love or darling or what not. And Jack always kissed him tenderly and answered the same, the same as always without pausing to think.
"Call me Captain, love."
