Goodbye

Author's Note: I wrote this thinking of a Grillows pairing with some apparent attempts at it, but it can be taken to be as Gil/OC or any other female character in the series you prefer. No name but Gil's is mentioned.

Gil stood in the middle of the almost empty room and looked around. A few boxes were scattered here and there, the couch was already covered with that thick moving blanket, his once full shelves stood bared of their usual creepy-crawly inhabitants. An entire lifetime had been removed from this town house. Every nook and cranny held a special meaning and it would, in a few moments, all be but a memory to be stored and called upon during lazy afternoons of remembrances.

This was the last time he would stand in a home owned solely by him. Gil was a married man now, and that meant he had given up his bachelor pad and bought a house with his new bride.

He stepped down into the open kitchen and placed his hands on the island counter. How many times had he served his famous omelets to her on this very surface? How many screwdrivers had she prepared for them as they joked around and relaxed after a grueling day at the lab? His refrigerator, now cleared of his personal paraphernalia, used to hold pictures of them and drawings etched by her daughter. This was also where they had shared their first kiss, and subsequently declared their love for one another. It was probably his favorite room in the entire house for that reason alone.

His feet shuffled him towards his bedroom. He stopped at the doorway to inspect and run his hands over the small dent he'd caused trying to play the hero one night and carry her to bed. The reminiscence brought with it a chuckle. Let's just say, it hadn't been attempted since.

He went in and smiles. This room definitely had quite a few memories in it as well. Many nights were spent simply holding his love and talking of hopes, dreams, regrets…anything and everything that came to mind was spilled forth in the cover of night as they lay in each other's embrace. He proposed to her on one of those nights and celebrated when she finally accepted.

Moving back up to the living room Gil took his time. He looked around one last time to make sure nothing was forgotten. The movers had gotten to the last few boxes and the place was vacant but for Gil. He walked out the door and locked it behind him. Another chapter in his life had just been folded, and it was now time to start living a new story, with new adventures, and with his new wife and step daughter by his side. Who knew, maybe a new baby wouldn't be remiss either. Only time would tell.
