Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.

OoOoOoO

Peace.

The layer of water on the rooftop of their hideout was peaceful. It did not sparkle or dance – the rain that would have made it do so had passed minutes ago. Konan looked upon the wet concrete as it reflected the silvery gray sky like a mirror leading to another world. It seemed that if you stepped in, you were lost forever in a sea of blank nothingness.

But was it really peaceful?

Was erasing everything that was on the page really the way to make a sketch of a war calm? Was this reality? Nagato sought to soothe the world with pain, to erase part of the picture. But were all those lives really going to be worth it? Konan furrowed her brow slightly and sat up from the ledge that lined the rim of the rooftop. Her movement made ripples in the still water. Stillness meant peace. She had disturbed the peace by stepping in. This was also how it was with people – don't startle or shake, and they keep their heads. But fighting was a part of human nature, no one could really stop it. That was why Nagato decided to carry out his plan like he did. But wasn't it their plan? One that they had worked on together? Or had Konan just followed him?

This was a week before Pein invaded Konoha – this was the day Konan began to doubt his way of peace.

A week later, Konan met Naruto. That was the day that she understood what peace really meant. Peace was different to everyone, it never was the same. Naruto's peace was bringing peace to the world. Jiraiya's peace had been teaching those he held close. Her's was...to...what was hers?

The day Madara removed Konan from his genjutsu and left her to die, was when Konan found out what peace was to her. She died for what she lived for.

Hope that could never wilt. Not now, not ever.

And that same day, as she sunk through the water, she also knew that the one time someone realized what their peace was, was usually the moment before they died. But Konan believed that Naruto would realize his peace long before his death. And because of him, the world would be able to find and realize theirs without dying.

She believed. Nagato believed. Yahiko believed. Everyone that Naruto met believed.

Konan died with a smile, just as Nagato before her had, and they both knew why.

Wow. That was short. It just came to me while I was looking at rain outside, which kind of makes sense. I think it came out pretty well, but if you have any critiques, please let me know what you think. For example, I'd actually like to know if I use the word 'peace' too much. Comments are very welcome, and I hope you enjoyed it!
