Just A Minute…
I own nothing. As usual.
Kind of a spoiler for Reckoning Pt. 2.
I don't mind critical reviews, if they make sense and tell me what to keep.
Thank you.
He was a smart man, all in all. And every smart man learns that some of the most important things in life are done in just a minute. Perhaps that is why, all his life, Dr. Daniel Jackson had tried to make his decisions quick. Whether it was a life-changer, an unimportant decision, or asserting his belief on a translation or theory, he was willing to defend it within a minute.
That was, after all, how the whole Stargate mission had begun. An old woman in a car offers him a plane ticket, and he had to make a decision. A decision that was made in just a minute- and look where that had gotten him.
When the rover had taken pictures of the Stargate on Abydos, Daniel had looked at those symbols strangely- they didn't even make sense. Yet when he was asked about translation, his answer was resoundingly positive- he could do it. Another decision made in just a minute.
Even the choice to fall in love, to give his love to a woman from a distant planet, hadn't been given much thought in the end. He had made the choice in just a minute- while it wasn't a perfect choice, it had given him many years of joy and comfort knowing she was there for him.
The creation of SGC had only made it more obvious. Everything done swiftly, decisions made in just a minute. And when lives were on the line, it seemed to move even faster. Lives lost, lives saved, and all of them in just a minute. Daniel realized the value of a minute even more than before, cataloguing all things that could change when sixty seconds finished.
The choice to Ascend. To meddle in the fight with Anubis. Everything, it seemed, had to be done quickly. In just a minute.
In the end, all his choices had turned out for the best. So now he knew absolutely he had to use any opening given, to use it to his utmost. The ability to control the Replicators, to access and stop every single one- it was important. So Daniel did it within a heartbeat- in just a minute.
It would be impossible to keep control for long. But then again, it may not take long- it could be another time where all his friends needed was what he had to offer: just a minute. Just a minute to save them all, a minute where the fate of the galaxy was in his hands…
And then it was over.
Once this enemy with a friend's face made her choice, it was even faster to his own end: Daniel felt the sharp pain in just a minute, and then it was over.
It took just a minute for him to realize what had happened: that he had succeeded…
And then just a minute for everything to end.
Then again, there were choices that could still be made- and if there were, Daniel mused as he died (yet again), they would be made just as his others had been: in just a minute.
