Near to the Dark
if you are near to the dark
I will tell you 'bout the sun
A small boy sat in a forest, leaning against a bed. There was nobody lying on the bed, but an opalescent girl of ever-swirling colours floated above it, eyes closed, never waking. The boy passed his hands over the grey staff that was lying in his lap. It was cold. He knew it was cold, yet no one else did, because no one else really lived in this world. Nobody else had The World as their world. The boy was no stranger to being alone, he had been alone all his life, but that did not make it any less painful. Everyone else slowly faded from his world, to eat, to sleep, to live in their world, while he stayed here. Only the voice of his mother kept him company all the time, the voice of his mother and the body of the sleeping girl. Maybe that is why he listened to her, to the things she said, so intently. She was the only person real to him, compared to the ephemeral people who only saw this World, without feeling it or living it.
you are here, no escape
from my visions of the world
Do you really want to return to that ludicrous world?
Did he? Why return to a world where only pain and suffering awaited him, where nobody loved him and where his mother was just a shadow in the past? It was obvious that he should stay here, with the sleeping girl, with his mother, and live peacefully forever. Nobody would ever come to bother them. Not his father who was always angry with him, shouted at him and hurt him. Not other boys, who would laugh at him and beat him. Here he could be happy, happy forever. Then why did he feel such reluctance to leave those people behind? Mimiru was annoying, always trying to make him do this or that, always arguing and complaining, he could do without her easily. Bear was just another selfish adult, like his father, he was only kind to the boy for his own benefit. Subaru was... kind to him, and didn't seem to have any other motives, he liked being with her… he shook his head. No, Subaru was just trying to drag him back to that cruel world, she just wished him more pain and suffering, like everyone did. He… he hated her, making him believe she cared, just so the betrayal would be even more painful, like everyone did.
"Yes! I hate you! I hate you Subaru! I hate you all!" he screamed into the air, his words laced with years of suffering condensed into pure bitterness.
Then he noticed something. He slowly brought a hand up to his eyes and felt the dampness there. Why? If he hated them so much, why did he cry?
Why?
you will cry all alone
but it does not mean a thing to me
Far away, on a boat sailing the calm waters of a city of canals, a small winged girl felt a wave of bitter despair wash over her. A slight whimper escaped from her lips at the overwhelming darkness, and a single tear left her hazel eyes. She looked up to the sky, realizing in dread where the feeling had come from.
"…Tsukasa"
