Trauma Team: Echoes of a forsaken world

Chapter 1: From the past

I awoke, the sound of my breathing echoing over the entire house. My eyes had flown open and I was afraid. But why? I can't remember what made my dream so scary. What happened in my dream that made me terrified? I got out of bed and checked the time. 4:30 in the morning, still dark out. But my cellphone was still ringing, as if to say, "Wake up, dumbass!"

I groaned and opened my phone. "Hello?" I answered, rubbing my eyes. "We need an ambulance at Broadway Street, 1032 Southeast. We need an immediate hospital location!" A man yelled, sounding panicked. "Get them here. I'll treat them." I replied, hanging up the phone.

The car pulled up a few minutes later. I, of course, was ready by then. My hands quivered. My body shook. My first operation. I was only 14, what could go wrong? Besides the fact that this was a house, not a hospital, I think I'm ready. "What the hell? This ain't a hospital, this is a house. And you're only a kid, why are you doing this!" The man yelled, bringing in his friend, with a few glass shards stuck inside his arm. "Put him down on that bed over there. And then back up, please. I will have my nurse help me on this one." I replied, pointing to the bed behind me. "Dammit, I'm trusting you right now, kid. Don't let my buddy die or it's on your head!" The man said, putting his friend on the bed.

I sighed and breathed in. "Let's begin the operation." I stated, going straight for the glass shards. I used my pliers and pulled them out, slowly and accurately as possible. I cut off his shirt, seeing a few cuts and bruises. The bruises could wait for later but the cuts are to be dealt with right now. I drained away the blood pool and put a few bandages around the cuts and put the antibiotic gel on each of them. I sighed, just as his vitals were at a stable level. But the nurse started yelling, "Doctor, there is no pulse from this man!" I pulled up the AED and charged him once, then again, then again. "You can do this!" The nurse said. I got the pulse back, but I could see something out of my eye. My dead parents, their skin decayed, the eye sockets empty, skeletal all over the body. "Ha,haha, hahaha, hahhahahahahhahahhahaahahhaahhahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahhahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahaha!" I started laughing, my mind completely crushed by the amount of work I had to do.

3 years later…

"Sir, he is clear for leave, over."

"Good work, gentlemen. Let him out of the asylum and into the free world."

That was all I heard before the doors opened up and I walked out. "Oh and since you did save that patients life 3 years ago, you have a job. At Resurgam. Your first day is tomorrow. Take care of yourself now, Freed." The Chief stated, as I walked out into the world, my purple hair flying in the wind. I sighed and walked back to my old house.

The Next Day…

I awoke, inside the hospital Resurgam. My body was drenched in sweat, I screamed when I woke up, causing my door to be opened quite fast. "Are you alright?" someone asked, as I got up. "Yeah, just another damn nightmare of mine." I replied, getting on my surgical coat on, my body now ready for the day ahead. "Well, alright. The staff wants to see you, by the way, so go down to the staff room in a few minutes." The person replied.

"I'm heading down right now." I replied, walking out the door.
